I'm a semi-retired stagehand. I've worked 3 WWE gigs 2016-2018. I usually would be put on the Video crew. Security was crazy. All the stagehands get searched everytime they come back in for going outside for break. The common unspoken rules I learned from some of my older gig brothers was don't do anything with your phone while on deck. If they suspect you of leaking pics or footage online, you're dismissed and blacklisted from working anymore WWE gigs. We were also told to not engage or talk to the 'Talent'. Unless they spoke to you first. When we were done with load in. About 20 of us stagehand were leaving the loading dock and a wall of fans were out there and they would go nuts and cheer for us. They didn't care that we were just stagehands. People still wanted to give me high 5's and fist bumps. It was awesome.

If there's one thing I respected more in my 18 years of watching WWE than anything else is the setup crew. Without a doubt, the most hardworking people in the WWE. You have to respect what they do on a weekly basis. Awesome video! Never actually watched a WWE setup get put together (except through pictures) but a full video of everything is just neat!

@JonathanStrickland9 жыл бұрын
I think it's pretty interesting how the WWE has evolved over time, and I think I can guess what's going on - you had the kids of the 80s and early 90s who grew up watching the stuff become teenagers and young adults. The WWE morphed into the Attitude era, which appealed to people who were now too old for the more simple storytelling from the past. But then over time those folks started having kids of their own, and now those kids are getting into wrestling, so we've come to a bit of a circle. Sort of a middle ground between the cartoony stuff of the 80s and the more gritty stuff of the mid to late 90s.
@balf11111173739 жыл бұрын

I've been to 3 WrestleMania events live and the Raw/SD after and a couple of NXT events. The greatest experience ever even if you're not a fan of wrestling is to be at WrestleMania. I've been to Several Independent events, 5 WWE Raws, 4 SmackDowns, 10 WCW Nitros, 2 WCW House Shows, Several TNA House Shows, 1 TNA Pay Per View and 1 WWE Superstars tv taping in my area. But nothing beats WrestleMania weekend, there is a feeling that is indescribable when you come to that town to stay for a few days to a week and you get into the building with 79,000 other fans there and you feel that collective roar and the building feels like it's moving because of the energy in it.. And you see the awesome set up and you are looking forward to seeing the peak performances of the year right before your very eyes. It's very cool. It beats the World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, and the NBA Finals. It even tops Kiss concerts. WWE does do it right when it comes to large stadium shows.

Ashton Smith If you watch any show or any movie, it's more than likely fake. Your point is?
@Hevybehemoth919 жыл бұрын
It is all scripted and is fake to an extent. Everything is planned and communicated before and during the match, they know it's coming. However if a 16ft fall is in the works that fall still has to be taken by someone, even if it has a set landing area which might have some level of safety too it, (for example mats under thin wood or a weaker than normal table) there are still a lot of risks involved. The landings have to be right, the positioning. Even everyday moves have risks involved. Miss your cue, don't tuck in your head in at the right time, don't roll enough during a flip, stand in the wrong place etc you could be in serious trouble. To me it is never about the "fighting", it is a spectacle, It's a show. They're actors, they're in on all of it but there is still plenty of pain and risk there, they are their own stunt men.

They should make this with the new Raw and SmackDown stage

All of this just for 3 hours of air time that is if if u count the show during advert breaks. Sometimes they do something 1 hour before the show airs for people still finding seats like video packages and after the show if its a celebration show the go off air but continues only for the live crowd!. When the off air show is over the crew have to undo everything what u see in video. It takes 6 HOURS from start to finish what u see in this. Start of building the stage starts at 8am and must be finished and must be show ready by 2pm.

Jonathan Strickland I'm so glad you covered this. I used to be a super fan but due to job, family and Netflix binging, I can never find the proper time to watch a full episode. 3:16 4ever!

I've been in the same boat. I've been using the WWE Network to watch stuff from the vault and NXT programming. But it's hard for me to stay current with what's going on just because of my own hectic schedule.

Hey Jonathan and HowStuffWorks! I was wondering if you guys could do an episode on Jason Robinson (the www stage creator) and how they design wwe PPV and wrestlemania stage.
@JonathanStrickland9 жыл бұрын
KmanPlaysMC That could be fun! I'll see if we can set something up in the future.

No joke! They are responsible for making sure the ring is put together properly, they keep a close eye on everything that's going on and they are working with guys who usually outweigh them by about 100 lbs.

WHY ARE ALL WWE PPV STAGE LOOKS LIKE RAW / SMACKDOWN'S STAGE, WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE LIKE THE OLD SICK PPV STAGES?
@noneurbuisness7778 жыл бұрын
+Earl Justin Enriquez I used to think the same but in watching this I understand why. The cost for one. Also by keeping it the same they can always use the same crew who is trained to always do the same thing and can do it in a time efficient manner

Having set up for WWE when they were World Wrestling Federation back in the early nineties and some this Millennium it takes a lot of time, dedication and team work. These guys sweat their butts off each week for 5 days just to help WWE talent entertain us. It's not an easy overnight job for sure. Going from city to city and state to state plus overseas...whew!
@JonathanStrickland9 жыл бұрын
Raphael Ramirez And not only that, they took time to talk with me while being super busy.
@raphaelramirez33249 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Strickland Yes they do take their time to show their skills and provide feedback on what it feels like to work together as a team. I've traveled once or twice in my own POV behind the trucks from one city to the next and man its non - stop from there. Usually 3 or 4 trucks and satellite TV truck arrive first around 4am. But there is no rest or sleep time (except for the driver of course). They immediately back in the trailers and thus the local union chapter go balls to the walls, lol. But yes, I agree, they still take the opportunity to stop and say hi and occasionally take fan pics, lol.
