The song is absolutely a masterpiece because it defines the 60's. They possessed the talent & it's sad they were underrated. They had a unique sound because they mainly used an electronic piano. But it was fitting that Rod Argent used an organ for the song. Using their creativity they brought the song to life. If they were part of the British Invasion then they're part of Rock History. They're still performing out there, because they appeared on The Jimmy Fallon Show. Guys "Keep On Rockin" while you all can.

With their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, it's just great to see video essays like this to really showcase how good they were in their day, and their writing and recording processes. Thank you for this and I hope you'd discuss more songs from many artists in the future. More power!

I bought a new copy of Oracle and Odessey, in 2011, on the Big Beat label. The songs were remastered. I saw The Zombies in 2013 in Charlottesville Virginia. I met Rod and Colin after the show, spent 10 minutes with them as the stage was being taken apart. They both signed my album. Both very normal and nice people.

The way that I feel when I listen to this music, remembering how new this all was and how simple life was in the 1960s, are the best memories. Best of luck with your music, I hope you have a lot of success. ❤

I "discovered" The Zombies on the first Moody Blues Cruise......they were the talk of the ship. Since then I've seen them a few times each year when they tour in the US until 2020 when all the concerts were cancelled. They're supposed to be back in June 2021 across Canada and a few shows in the US. The Zombies are better than ever and they were also the first band British Invasion band after the Beatles to have a hit with a song written by a member of the band (Rod). Their last album "Still Got that Hunger" is also terrific.

Absolutely love Odessey And Oracle. It's perfect from beginning to end. It boggles the mind that that album didn't light the pop world on fire. The same could be said of The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society. Although, I believe that album had the misfortune of being released right around the time of the Beatles White Album.

Chris DeLisle The fact that the band had split was the major factor. There was no tour or promotion to carry the album to the masses. Also, there was no hope of another album so fans didn’t have the chance to connect with the band at the time.

Did you know that after Time of The Season was a hit and there was no band to tour the states for it; some guys in America made a fake band to tour as the zombies. Eventually the real zombies stopped them- but the drummer and guitar player from the fake zombies decided to stay in a band together... This band became ZZ Top! Crazy story, huh?

Odessey and Oracle, along with Pet Sounds, are the only two albums that rate right up there with the best Beatles albums. The premature demise of the Zombies is the greatest tragedy of Rock'n'Roll -- except maybe Badfinger... and the way Mike Love and the Beach Boys stomped out Brian Wilson's creativity...

Odessey And Oracle is one of the best albums of all time. I’ve always loved Time Of The Season but after hearing the entire album many many times the album would still be one of the greatest even if Time Of The Season had not been on it. Interestingly they released Butcher’s Tale as a single and kind of overlooked what became a huge hit. For those not familiar with the album it is must listening, bucket list kind of stuff...

@@WalshieYT1 for me it was the album that got me back into his music, I live in Michigan and was a fan of ICP when I was like 12, which was 1998. My friend had the Slim Shady LP and I was a fan right away, bought the MMLP when it came out but then as I got older started getting into other music and didnt pay much attention to what Eminem was up to until the LP2 and that brought me back in. I really like Kamikaze btw, I think everything is written when it needs to be written, and he says what he needs to say. Hes really personal and honest about himself and what he thinks about the world, he delivers the comedy and tragedy in the right amounts. His fans have grown up with him and I've gone back and listened to those albums I missed and I would say despite sales or critics opinions, those are still high quality works even though I could pick out things to criticize about them, it wouldn't make any difference.

@@makeshift_battlefield_music I didn't really get into Em's music until recovery, and even then I was quite young, I'm completely with you on everything you just said. His technical skills and versatility as an artist, a story teller, a comedian and just a really fucking good rapper is umatched. It's cliche as hell but his music genuinely helped me through a lot growing up, just being able to laugh or know there were people dealing with my struggles and worse, which is why Rabbit Run is probably always gonna be my favourite track ever, and the final verse of bad guy my favourite verse ever

Curious to have had "extra tracks," when recording on four track machines. Without access to eight-track machines in 1967, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was recorded in pretty wild experimental way; using paired four track machines. That was what Abbey Road had. The first eight-track machine in the UK (an Ampex) did not go there, however, but was installed at London's Trident Studios in early 1968. Wonder how the Zombies had "extra tracks" in 1967... They actually had a bit of a track shortage. One phrase is repeated. "What's your name ..." Both times, the word "is" (in the elongated "is - he - rich") gets swallowed up by a "punch-in." The vocals were recorded onto an unused part of another track. But to avoid messing up what was there already, the "punch" had to follow it, and (being before the introduction of the "sync head"), a small beat of time interval was needed for the heads to shift, creating an artifact of a "punch-in" where the word "is" should be. How did they do it exactly the same way, both times? The exact same artifact, the exact same punch, in the exact same place, so identically that if a recording of each instance is cut out, and duplicated multiple times, then reassembled at random, it's impossible to distinguish which is the first and which is the second? It's simple. It's the same recording, used twice. So if it was only recorded once, originally, that means the entire original arrangement was completely different. Yup.

Ray Segura Hey, Ray. I'm a *huge* stones fans but I've always felt they thought they needed to continually play catch up with the Beatles. The evidence of this is their response to "Sgt. Pepper's" with the release of "Satanic Magesties", one of their worst albums in my opinion. They truly came into their own during & after the Beatles breakup. "Sticky Fingers" & "Exile" are simply outstanding pieces of work.

Because they were on a strict budget of only 1000 £ {pounds sterling), EMI and CBS would not pay for the stereo mixes; the Zombies had to pay 200 £ out of their own pockets. One of the best sound engineers in the world, Geoffrey Emerick, produced the record. The Zombies ended up owning the master recordings. In fact, in the U.S., C.B.S. initially would not even release the record. It was until U.S. A&R producer Al Kooper raved about the record, that CBS released the recording on their Date Records subsidiary label for Columbia's acquired and independently produced recordings. Unfortunately, by this time the band had broken up and when "Time of the Season" became a hit and reached #3 in the Billboard top 100 in March of 1969,and number 1 on the Cashbox and Canadian charts, the Zombies had been broken up well over a year.
