I think Riley already feels genuine love. I think if Joy were to grow, it would be in to contentment. Especially since the movie is going to be based on puberty and new emotions. You don't always get to feel joy, pure joy, like a child. But being content with your life more often than not is almost better than getting to experience joy sometimes. Especially, especially if you suffer from depression and anxiety.

The fact that parents were outraged because Turning Red showcased scenes of a period just goes to show how messed up our society is. If they get mad over this movie then I don't know what to do.

SAME HERE. The first time I watched Turning Red, my dad kept making comments in the first TWO minutes of it and I wasn't able to properly enjoy it until he happened to fall asleep. That movie did not deserve how people were reacting to it. It had a great underlying emotional story and it even made me cry despite the fact that I've done trained myself not to cry for the past five or so years. Inside Out has always been very special to me, and with how the sequel is looking, I have a strong feeling I'm going to get attached to this one too. ..And it also looks like that type of movie someone’s going to have an issue with. Whether it be because it is focusing on mental health, might have themes on accepting yourself and your feelings, may have a character(s) that don't fit into the social standards, or just the ‘hah angsty teen. that's just how they all are’ way that some people -(my dad)- think
