The Metabarons is a comic book series about the story of a dynasty of perfect warriors, written by Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Juan Giménez. This series shows us a world where fantasy and science fiction blend to build an epic tale of patricide, destiny, incest and blood in the purest tradition of Greek tragedies.

Metabarons, Incal and Technopriests take up half a shelf of my inside bookcases. My only problem is that Humanoids has re-released and repackaged a few times that I never know the proper order to read them. If anyone knows of a definitive guide to reading the series it would be greatly appreciated. Not even sure if I have every piece.

You have made such a fine presentation that honors the convergence of the great artist Juan Gimenez and the visionary fantastical story teller Alejandro Jodorowsky. I have collected many of Gimenez' earlier works many not translated into English, the art of story telling is so visual that one gets it from the magnificent illustrations that bring magic to the story. I then got the full large and heavy numbered special edition of the Metabarons that comes it a magnificent box like case. I was lucky to get that while it was available, it is the treasure of my art book collection! I am subscribing to see your other presentations as this one is so well done.

Are you joking? He ruined Prometheus with Alien Covenant, he should stay away from directing, too old, and that goes for Jodo as well, although I love him but they are just too old for modern film making.

I am very conflicted about this work. The art is some of the most sublime and breathtaking ever to be put onto paper in a comic. The writing is... really grating. Nevermind that all the character speak their dialogue like they're in a 60s Spider-Man comic, telling the readers their thoughts out loud in pretty clumsy exposition, it's not a style of narration I enjoy, but I know it's a classic one. Nevermind that the comic seems to treat most of its female characters as scenery to prop up the mostly male main characters, I guess Jodorowsky like a lot of other writers were used to seeing stories like that and didn't overly scrutinize it. Nevermind that Jodorowsky's take on scifi is just throwing random ideas at the page and adding "paleo-", "space" or "techno" or something to it to make it futuristic, I find it grating, but I can understand if someone sees it as charming. Nevermind that most of the characters are utterly unsympathetic assholes, this is sorta true for classical heroes like Achilles or even Herkules too. But Jesus Christ those two fucking robots narrating the story CONSTANTLY interrupt the narrative and have the most GROAN-WORTHY fucking anti-funny schtick going on. Haha, the little robot threatened to beat the big robot for being dumb. For the SIXTH TIME. Haha, hilarious! Genius! Brilliant! AAAAARRRGGHHH. I struggled my ass through this saga for the art. And because I grew up LOVING the Incal. But it was painful.
@BGatts666
@BGatts666 Жыл бұрын
yep. I don't even remember reading the metabarons, I'm pretty sure I did, it's just that the "story" was just... just not. It's clearly the "art" and not the sense that drive this work, quite interesting but in the end simply lacking.
@PsychoholicSlag83
@PsychoholicSlag83 Жыл бұрын
I share some of your thoughts; the story is great... conceptually. Lots of mixed feelings. Lots of people consider it to be better than The Incal, but I found myself struggling through bits (it doesn't help either that the integral tome is a heavy ass book), while The Incal felt like a page-turner
