Pretty spot on. I took a big leap of faith in 2022 and moved out deep in to the mountains here in SE Australia. Setting up a vacant block to live, by myself, has been a pretty brutal process and even now with a liveable space, surrounded by forest, the isolation is very hard. It helps to have good people around you, to heal. I have been living without running/hot water for over two years now, but I do find a deep satisfaction in not paying interest to a bank for a mort-gage (death pledge), my electricity being generated on my own property via the sun and the water that I use falls from the sky. I stopped voting and did not consult any government department of any kind in setting up my land. Wallabies casually graze on the grass outside my tiny home, it took about 2 years for them to become used to my presence.

I wonder the percentage of people who actually feel this way. I suggest conducting a survey in order to find out. I grew up in Los Angeles and can't say I met anyone like you are describing but I'm sure some do exist. Civilization is recent phenomenon compared to many thousands of years of human existence as hunters and gatherers. It's an experiment humans are trying out. If it turns out to be a miserable failure, we'll try something else, like the eco villages that are gradually popping up more and more around the globe. Hopefully people gravitate towards work suited to their temperament, there are plenty of opportunities available to choose from, even dropping out of the traditional workplace altogether.
