The root cellar should be nice and dry with the sloping concrete, Grace Ice and Water Shield. the black tar and 'French drain'. You mentioned the complete waterproofing process may be overkill but having a nice dry root cellar is worth all of your efforts. Continued blessings to all of you.

You know... Andrew Camarata has a HUGE industrial sized rock crusher - strangely mesmerizing to watch, and I confess that YOUR little rock crusher looks like it does a GREAT job. And... I bet that it too is strangely mesmerizing to watch. I'm quite impressed. Sure... it takes a LONG time to get the gravel you want, but nothing can really beat the price. I'm always surprised how inexpensive gravel is per ton... it's the delivery fees that can get steep. I put a parking pad in back of my house and I'm pretty close to downtown. The gravel was under $100 for a couple tons... but the delivery fee was almost twice that, and the driver STILL couldn't get it where I wanted due to some old wires attached to my house (that the phone company has refused to remove... lol) So I ended up moving 2 tons of gravel from where it was dumped into the parking pad. Anyway, thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

Don't forget to silicone around the pipes and get a brayer roller to work out the air bubbles under your lament. Great idea though I have seen several basements what were coated and they still got moisture inside. If you need free labor, I'm retired. I love to car camp. I live in the valley.

Good job despite the circumstances. I would think it a good idea to flash above your pipes using the ice and water shield membrane to give those penetrations extra protection.

I had concrete contractors install something like that on my basement but I think they went vertical. Don't remember for sure. Then I put 3/4 foam board against the peel n stick stuff to protect while backfill. Great job and video

Beautiful job, that should seal very well. Are you going to cover the whole thing to keep water out until you build? If it is sealed to keep water out, it might also keep water in if it rains on it. That is a great idea with the ice shield, that should keep the gravel from compromising the seal..
@RobertJLessard10 ай бұрын
Very nice work. Your cold cellar is nicer than my house lol. Most people would just dig a hole, like it with brick and stick in a sump. This is more like a basement suite. 👍😁

The ice and water seal intrigues me, because the actual product bituthene is similar, but I am sure they have marked differences. Still, a roof is more prone to water and as ice and water shield is a nonpermeable layer for that environment I cannot see a reason for this product to not at least help in some way with this situation. If anyone knows of a reason this would not be a reasonable addition please share.
