How this Englishman fell in love with Sligo Town (a tour - part 1)

Sligo Town, the largest town in County Sligo is one of my favourite places.
In July 2022 i was house hunting prior to our move from the UK. I had some spare time so I visited Sligo. I fell in love. It was so different to the county towns in the UK. To give an example - We lived in Essex and the county town, Chelmsford, has a population of over 123,000 whereas, Sligo’s population is under 21,000.
It wasn’t just the difference in size that amazed me. I was struck by how relaxed Sligo is. I was astounded by the care people take of their town. By how clean everything is. By how colourful the buildings and bridges are and by the architecture and history.
By making this video (and the others that will follow) we hope to convey all of these things and more.

A lovely town. Whenever I see these historic Irish towns I always think there is a real need for a bypass and pedestrianisation.

The surname MacDiarmada is pronounced Mac DEER-mada (as near as I can get it). The anglicised version of the name is McDermott. By the way-hope the leg is getting better!

The railway station had a full slate roof but it was lost in a fire. The replacement was a bit naff. There is a branch at the signal box going down to the mothballed freight yard along the docks.
