PRS is my go-to now. My 594 does everything a Les Paul can do, while staying in tune, being much higher quality and I get to feel good about the company that makes it. I just added a DGT to my collection this week and wow, what a guitar! I now understand why everyone goes on about the neck shape, it's amazing. And I love the placement of the volume knob. It's a keeper for sure.

I've always been a "Gibson guy"...I played a McCarty 594, and I was sold. It's the best guitar I've ever played. It has nothing that irks me, it's just so comfortable to play, sounds amazing, and I actually play better using it. My Gibsons have been slowly getting sold off... That DGT is stunning and sounds beautiful!

My experience with PRS: I am one of the 200 who got a Robben Ford signature … and brought it back for sale after owning it for a few months. Luckily no one picked it up and I took it back last week. So it had chosen me and just coming back from a gig I feel it teaches me to play .-) These guitars play perfectly and have the utmost quality standards. I will take it as it sounds and how I get along with it. Gibson Murphy's and Fender Master Builds are much more layers' guitars these days than any PRS … and Paul is certainly one of the most innovative guys in the community.

What I love about PRS, is their QC at every level of guitar they offer... The duds are very minimal and expected, however more often than not, their guitars are expertly made and designed; core and SE alike! Good Vibes Paul! The thing that finally sold me on PRS (being in the "Its for lawyers/doctors" camp) is thinking about how when in the middle of a ripping solo, your band mates turn to look at u, and they dont see that, they just see their guitar player playing awesome licks on a crazy awesome/beautiful looking guitar, and i think that pays a lot of respect to the music u are playing, it elevates and inspires everyone in the band, not just u. Ever since i had that realization, it made sense.

I love my PRS SE custom 24. Best ~$8xx I’ve spent on a guitar. I’m an old man (64) who’s been playing since 9th grade, gig maybe 4 times a year. Looks great and amazing action. I’ve got a telecaster and Schecter Corsair as well, practice on the Corsair as the action is a little higher and have to fight it a bit more but then the PRS is like playing without strings at all.

I never watched Jeff until now and he is spot on with several things in this video. The weight thing. The fact that PRS’s quality control is so tight that they all sound alike without much variance from guitar to guitar. And the thing about us wanting the prs to BE a Fender or a Gibson is true.

This isn’t just a beautiful guitar, it is stunning to look at and hear. Also a lot of that is your playing as well. Technically you are brilliant but you have feel and that beats everything else. Good points here about guitars in general. Play what you love and play a guitar that inspires you to play. Period. Awesome DGT Jeff! I currently own 4 PRS Core models. I 100% agree with you that PRS QC is second to none! They are amazing instruments! I have a first-year (08) DGT with a 10 top. It's heavy, at 9.5 lbs. I won't part with it. Being a bassist, the weight-with the proper strap-is no problem. It's a beast! I also have an '07 Singlecut Trem with a 10 top. About 9 lbs. It moves more when I play, being lighter, and sounds brighter and less dense. It also sounds fantastic. Both are impeccably built and play very well. I have two other PRS guitars-a Studio and a McCarty hardtail. The DGT I would keep if I could only have one, hands down. It just wails. Nice vid, Jeff. Man, I love your playing.

It isn't a guitar I see myself spending over 4k for, but have to agree they are incredibly well made and highly playable. There are so many stigmas associated with playing guitar that I agree, you simply have to not give a shit about what anyone thinks; play the music and guitars you love and you'll find your audience.

Congrats Jeff, beautiful Guitar, fantastic sounding. As a traditional player i let Prs for many years at the side. Tryed one, giving a chance I was so surprised and fell in love with. Now having 4 core, it‘s for me the best working and most inspiring guitars i played. I dont care what people think or say it’s my instrument that works for me. Great guitars, high quality, fine sounding. Still love Fender and Gibson, but I find my way to PRS. And honestly if you compare a Silversky against a Strat….😅. I think come on people 60 years of Instruments without any Innovation. The old guys played what was avaiable. Ofc PRS wasnt there, and now, how cares. Play what works for you, it‘s like a pen that help uns to play and wright music, nothing else. It‘s not the brand at the end of the headstock, it‘s a human player with his instrument. Love the sound you are creating with your Guitar. Cool you have chosen your instrument, that have spoken to you, unregarding the brand. I love my PRSes.

Why does it have to be one guitar versus the other they all have their own personalities like children like people. They all can be loved for what they bring as individuals to the creative world. I personally started out on les Paul’s. I was at a gig the guitar player became ill. The band leader asked me if I would play. The guitar Available was a strat fell in love from the first note. I recently had a opportunity to play a Mark T Artist series, PRS. is everything you said it was and more. Like the human race, so many great guitars they all have a place in the world. Rock And Roll on.

For me PRS build is second to none. I gigged one for a few years and it never went out of tune - great work horses which most people don’t ‘get’. I couldn’t care about the image at my age, fool anyone who dismisses them from an image perspective. Congrats on finding an inspiring instrument. That's not an easy endeavor. I had a '97 McCarty DC for 10 years. I dug it's feel and it did sound good. Something was missing for me. A member of a forum I belong to brought his, first year, '08 DGT Gold Top over to try some of my amps. This was in '08. I played the DGT and dug the tone of that bridge pickup sound. I'm not a trem player but, had to search for those pickups used. I found a '08 set of DGT pickups for sale in early '09. Snatched 'em up and put 'em in my McCarty. Boom, I was now truly inspired. I played that McCarty for several years after as my #1. That's coming from a Gibson lifer. Well, became a single dad of my teenage daughter after divorcing my wife. Most of my gear had to be let go to help support my daughter. That McCarty w/DGT pickups was lost. There are only 4 guitars I parted with in my 56 years that I really want back. The '97 McCarty is one of 'em. Today, my two #1s are both Gibson SGs. A Junior and a Standard '61 model. The only thing about many PRS guitars that turn me off is "too much bling". That's all. BTW, I got my first PRS in '91. Well before the internet informed us all what's good or not! lol Cheers Jeff. 🍻

Congratulations, that's a beautiful guitar! My fourth PRS is a DGT. I started out with Strats and Teles for a few years. The first PRS I bought was a CU22, still have it. Played it almost exclusively for 10 years. Next came the 594, awesome guitar and played it about 3 years. Next was the Silver Sky, great guitar but just never bonded with it. Then came the DGT and I haven't looked back in the last couple years. The neck is perfect, it did take a minute to get use to the large frets. Tremolo is perfect. Pickups have so many sound options, they do all I want to hear. Let the critics rag on PRS, I don't care and don't really care to play anything else. Just caught a Grissom show at the Saxon Pub in Austin and had him sign the electronics cover plate on my DGT, so it isn't going anywhere! I look forward to hearing the DGT in more of your videos!

I'm kind of 'Brand Agnostic'. I have a Strat that I absolutely love. I have an inexpensive Les Paul that is great. I also own a DGT...An '08 Mahogany Standard in Seafoam. It's the guitar I play most often. There's just something about it that makes me want to pick it up. Really great video, Jeff. Thanks for posting this.

Have to agree that the DGT was the first PRS that I really liked. I owned a custom 24 and never bonded with it and sold.. the other that I really love is the PRS Special which I own.

I have always wanted a PRS since the 80’s when they came out. I have always ended up with Gibsons or Fenders, then Franken-Fenders I have put together. I do really like unfinished necks. Torrified Maple seems great? The clarity of the pickups sound nice, though I have mostly leaned towards Single coils. Truth is I have a few great guitars. All with their quirks, but totally serviceable. I would love to have a good Humbucker guitar again…who knows? Probably would put together another Parts-caster?

Absolutely love my DGT. It’s something unique from the Gibson and Fender vibes, but the DGT still has a vintage vibe. David knows tone and I’d love to hear what his DG30 amp is like

Beautiful tone and playing Jeff. I have to agree with you...the older I get the less I care what people think lol, but also - PRS in my experience has the most consistent build quality. I've been in savings mode because my next guitar is a DGT. Thank you for another great video.

That guitar is beautiful. Gibson might get too much hate for the problems they have, but PRS doesn't get enough credit for making amazing instruments. Look at that thing.

The DGT may just be PRS' best offering, all the details add up, the bigger frets and thicker strings, the neck carve, the pickups, the dual volume controls, the split sounds... If I could take only 1 guitar to a rehearsal / gig, it would be my DGT Standard (all mahogany).

Beautiful. If it’s good enough for David Grissom, it’s miles beyond good enough for me. Nice axe, Jeff. Congrats!

I have owned a DGT for over a decade and let me say from the getgo that in my opinion no one makes a guitar with the consistent quality of a PRS guitar. The initial circumstances of my purchase meant that I didn't really have a chance to play the DGT and "bond" with it. Consequently I was not 100% taken with the sound. I found it a bit too sharp and trebly, I couldn't get that creamy jazz sound. I decided to take the treble bleed caps out of circuit and suddenly it was there, the sound I was looking for from this guitar. Recently I decided to change the volume control for the neck pickup to one with and pushpull option to switch the treble bleed caps in and out to suit. Heaven! Now I can do Nile Rogers or Clapton at the "flick" of a switch. Highly recommend this mod.
@JeffMcErlain Жыл бұрын
Funny. Great minds, I am thinking of similar options. David plays with a darker tone so the treble bleeds really work for him. I’m not used to them but it’s an easy fix and great you didn’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
@JeffMcErlain Жыл бұрын
I really like that mod idea just as you describe. Thank you!
@mojogaucho Жыл бұрын
@@JeffMcErlain the good part is one is not doing something that can't be reversed. Heads up: I had to find some steel washers as the hole for the standard volume pot is much bigger than the hole needed for the pushpull pot. No big deal though.

a different guitar only distracts you from playing the same and being repetitive. A different guitar also brings out a different player and enhances your creativity. cheers

PRS guitars are fantastic - but I have never really bonded with the neck profiles. I am a Gibson guy when it comes to neck shape, and I also like a nice Tele. But the PRS neck shapes are different and not my thing. You new DGT is gorgeous and I hope you enjoy it for years to come.
@JeffMcErlain Жыл бұрын
Try the DGT if you haven’t. Narrower than the other models.
@IvorThomas Жыл бұрын
I agree on the neck shape thing. At first the thought the DGT neck was overly scrawny, but it’s growing on me, and thumb-over chords and double stops are a breeze.

I've "nearly" bought a PRS so many times over the years but never quite got THAT connection. Today I'd love a DGT but honestly a lot of the finishes look a bit like furniture to my eye and I can't stand book-match tops that don't match across the join - that one you have is possibly the best looking DGT I've ever seen . Sounds ok too in your hands😜

Hi Jeff! After playing so many years with a heavy right hand and too much pressure on my left hand, I realized that almost all the players I dig (including you in my top 5 list) play with the opposite strategy. If this is something you consider relevant to note, it would be great to have a video showing how to achieve that and to take advantage with it. Beautiful guitar, but anyway the tone is great mainly because you are not ruining it with your picking hand.
@JeffMcErlain Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you. That is an excellent video topic that I will definitely do. It is very important, I used to play really hard on both hands and had to work to sort it out. Economy picking really helped me. Thank you for the idea. 🙏🏻

Hi Jeff, I totally agree. If you find one you keep it. I make guitars, renovate old ones. Need to upload some videos. There is something magical in some of them. You just do not want to sell it ever! Other are good, but someone else may feel this thing better. Its a strange thing really.

Yes I love the more traditional guitars but a couple of days ago I tried out a couple of PRS SE models while assessing a new amp I bought. My mind was blown by their tone and QC. Then played a Gibson Les Paul. My expectations are recalibrated but darned I’m still drawn to that damned poker chip.

@JeffMcErlain Phenomenal sounds in this video. What was your signal chain? I have a Custom 24, and a 594 (that is now my favorite guitar), and I have been considering adding a DGT; do you think it will fit comfortably with the 594 as far as playability and sound?

Thanks Jeff, enjoyed that video. It’s interesting as from time to time I have looked at PRS, obviously heard them played many times and love the idea of them, in particular your model. The times I have played them in store I never felt good enough to benefit from them, nice to watch you playing one. I’ll keep trying them out from time to time
