The 4X4 Chevy square body is finally ready for paint after several rounds of block sanding. Masking off a 2 tone paint scheme can be a nerve wracking job...patience is the key!

I like the way you laid it out. I have never been a fan of the factory 2 tone on the 81-87 c10s. But moving the top line down to the trim line and rounding the front fixed it. Great job!!!

Thanks! It worked out well.

The high two tone line must have been popular in the 80’s, Ford and Dodge both had high lines in those years too. It looks really odd on the Chevys especially because it doesn’t follow any of the body lines. This guy did a great job though.

Sweet job dude, I am trying a a two tone on the 91 k1500, made a tent in the backyard and using single stage finish 1 paint, eastwood epoxy primer and 2k primer/surfacer, about 1400 in paint and primers, just my work truck trying to make her a new dress, its fun and frustrating at the same time, you sure have a steady hand as sharp as those lines are!!!!!

Again another great video, however I am currently restoring 3 vehicles, and wanted to comment on your paint cost quote, I live on an acreage, and have to travel down 7km of grid road in any direction to get to highway, and for that reason, I will be using a single stage enamel paint & hardener, I cant spend several thousand dollars on a paint job, only to cringe and swear after every stone bounces off it lol. I understand different levels of finish etc, but as most trucks back in the day didnt have 10-15k looking paint jobs, I think it makes more sense in my situation.
@Hammerback9722 жыл бұрын
Could you consider putting some of that “clear bra” on the lower part of the vehicle behind the tires to prevent chips?

Hey Dan looks splendid indeed . Q. on the masking- Did you Lay any clear down prior to masking? Or what's the secret to prevent peeling off the base coat if didn't clear it. Thanks man will be Watching more ! Happy holidays
@dirtydansrodncycle2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! No clear before masking...use the proper 3M automotive tape and remove it as soon as the 2nd color is dry to the touch. If the primer was well sanded (I use 400 or 500 wet paper) the base won't peel off. Happy holidays to you and your family!

I’m in the process of painting my ‘73 c10 short bed fleetside, I’d like to do it 2 tone like yours , my grandfather had one with that same exact paint scheme from the factory dark blue with the white insert…..I’m just gonna paint mine white with a blue ghost flake pearl in the clear….I painted my nova pretty much the same but with a green ghost flake pearl in the clear and it came out killer……I need to hurry up and finish painting this thing, I’ve already got a brand new vortech supercharger to bolt onto the built LS motor that I have already swapped into it last fall, I just haven’t put the supercharger on it cause my wife would kill me if she caught me bolting a supercharger on an unpainted truck…….so in the garage it’s hiding……I had to hide the supercharger for my nova for a few months too until the time was right!!!!

WOW looks great! I'm thinking about painting my GMC Jimmy in my garage like you did. How did you keep the paint from getting dirt or dust in it? Looks like you just did this in a normal garage and not a booth?
@dirtydansrodncycle Жыл бұрын
Yep, I've done over 20 paint jobs in here...lots of cleaning...especially the floor...and don't "disturb" dust and dirt on shelves, walls etc. Any minor specs will sand & buff out.

What clear coat did these trucks have originally? It seems to be less than high gloss. Was that just a defect in the product at the time? Oh yeah… your truck is KILLER!
