@@liv0003 there are very few women in that speciality because very few women are willing to sacrifice their lives, friends and family for such working condition when they can chose slightly less worst working conditions
@liv00032 жыл бұрын
@@FatBunny168 probably yes, it can be. I think is a mix of different reasons, before it was a career practically forbidden to women or in any case strongly discouraged, today things have changed and there is certainly much less opposition but on a cultural level there are still cultural expectations that see the woman as a mother and wife first of all and therefore consequently she is expected first of all to sacrifice her career for the family and to favor and support her husband in his career choices. The roles, however, are certainly less rigid and if a woman wants she can still choose a career traditionally considered more "masculine". Then probably many women simply choose to favor other aspects of their life such as children and family because that is simply what they want, nothing wrong with that. In my opinion it's a combination of the two factors a certain social pressure that still persists even today (albeit less than in the past) and a "female preference" for certain choices over others without necessarily external pressures being involved in the final decision.

I'm a neurosurgeon and my interview was pretty much like that. It happened in 1986. I'm a dinosaur. Retired.

Love the neurosurgeons in our hospital, they work hard and make the admins lots of money. We do need to increase the amount of neurosurgeons, time to pressure the board.

I have scrubbed for a lot of neurosurgery (senior OR nurse) & we used to say to each other ‘come on it’s not rocket science’ behind the neurosurgeon’s back - and sometimes in front of them 😂

The neurosurgery residency in the hospital I’m a med student is pretty brutal. In the first year of residency, your on perpetual duty and I mean that literally. First year residents have to live in the hospital so all their waking hours are working. Their quarters are within the neurosurgery ward. As med students in the neurosurgery department we had 12 hour shifts pretty much daily and its already so much. One time one of the first year residents told me to take him to the med student quarters, I kid you not, he lay down on one of our beds and in less than a minute he was already snoring loudly(it was so that he could hide from his seniors lol). I have no idea why they would put themselves through that but the first year residents were very nice and I’m rooting for them haha.
