I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to teach people like myself the craft. To be totally honest, I love to keep up with my Ghetto Hooptie, but I'm currently in a situation where I don't have or could afford to pay to get everything done. That being said, a lot of the things on my car have been done by me on a budget. It's really satisfying to see the progress and ending of all my projects. If it wasn't for you guys doing these videos, I would have never been able to do this work. It's not perfect, but they look alright to me. In the end, that's all that matters.

Another great spray can paint job! You make it look easy. I just tried it with Rustoleum metallic blue on the hood of my GS400 and it didn't look even. I had issues with concentrations of metallic in certain areas and uneven gloss finish. I ended up using 6 cans of color and 4 cans of 2k Spraymax. I wasted $190. I sanded the old clear coat and some base coat and then primered the whole surface to get a uniform color. Then I gave it a light sand with 400 and 600. I gave the color cans a warm water bath prior to use to hopefully get even coverage and still failed :( Any suggestions/advice would greatly be appreciated.

This will crack, fade and look like 💩 after 90 days and 180 days you will cry because of the looks of your poor car, buy auto paint, not iron paint, this is great for rusty tractor or old rims, not for steel body’s, it’s too thick and hard to sand off after you see what it done to your car, if your after a pretty car, use auto paint and auto clear coat, did this and hated the painting I had done to my pickup. Took,12 cans, but will never do it again,

My question is can I wet sand and spray a 3rd coat a week after the first 2 coats to try and fix the striping? Thanks and keep up the great channel!

Usually the answer is yes you can but some paints wrinkle up after another coat weeks later and idk why exactly but it’s not always the case. You could definitely try it and see what happens but worse case scenario you have to re do that whole panel

Fishing line and heat together on older cars works perfect to protect the emblems from breaking I want you get the technique down the spraying heavy heavy wet coats and as heavy as possible and get used to the type of pain you're using and catching the runs you can spray down some wet paint jobs and they'll look shiny as glass with the clear once you get that technique down you can have some amazing paint jobs it's all depends on how heavy and wet you can put the paint down without it running and fish eyeing and orange peeling show cars when the gas tank those those painters that paint show cars they'll even tell you lay down the paint as wet as possible for every coat unless you're doing a special paint job or it's the first two coats you do it light then wet and then of course with your clear you want to do a really heavy wet coat and then a medium wet coat on the rest of the coats that first coat if you got your clear rough it's going to be ugly and never ever let the paint dry in there or paint when it's too hot out because when you get rough texture on paint that's cuz you're spraying too far away two lighted coats too fast and not wet enough or it's too hot out you want the paint wet wet wet when it goes on and make sure you overlap correctly as well so you don't get streaks and you can chase the streaks up and down the panel as well as your painting you'll see the streets come in then you can go back down a little bit and you can chase the streaks back out I'm making it wetter lighter in a certain spots you'll get the hang of it after you've painted a few panels and stuff just takes practice

Thanks for the detailed how to! Been subbed since I bought my CRV and found the video you did with the pink! If you have time I've got 2 questions: were the 7 cans paint/ 6 cans clear enough for the CRV? I've been scrubbing through that video for a while and can't find the most straightforward answer. Also, in your professional opinion, what spray can most closely matches a brittish racing green? I'm looking at the rustoleum Gloss Hunter Green, or maybe one of the darker greens from something like Montana Cans (graffiti style paint)
@JamesDguy
@JamesDguy 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure on the green but hunter green might be close and with the temperature being 65-70 no wind and in a garage/ shop using my spray technique I was able to use that 7 cans of paint and 6 cans of 2K clear. I recommend 8 cans of each. I lay the paint on thick so it don’t need re coated but some like thin coats 2 times but I get best results with it thick enough to be glossy but not thick enough to run. It takes some practice but hope it helps! Thanks for the support all these years

I live in an apartment and I’m parked under a car port which only has a canopy overhead, so no protection from wind, which you also mentioned to avoid if possible. And I think you noted in a video that the paint takes 24 hours to fully cure? Does that mean you wouldn’t drive the car to work the very next Monday morning after sitting overnight from Sundays spray job? I’m just wondering what kind of results I’ll get if I did my entire car but pretty much one panel at a time, trying to time it with weather forecast between windy days. These videos you’re doing have me wanting to finally make my car look nice the way it deserves. Pretty straight body but it’s had peeling clear coat and paint since I got it

lame that we dont have rustoleum product in eastern europe. Any suggestions for same price range alternatives? Ive used motip/multicolor spraycans with same results myself but i have to buy primer/base paint + color + 2k gloss separately - dont worry, still cheaper than buying the service. Just browsing for good alternatives!

Can’t you see the scratch marks through the paint from using 320 grit?

No it will work out fine, the primer will fill it in and smooth it out.

If you go through all the work of sanding and taping just buy a 15 dollar harbor freight gun and spray rust ilium with hardener catalyst

Because it's a rattle can aka spray paint. Laying to light of coats and to far away with spray can will cause paint particles to be dry in the air and stick to the car and it will be rough. For a super glossy glossy high definition shine you're going to have to get a really good clear coat and get the wet sand down your base coat before you even clear coat it and you want to lay almost every single layer of paint down to where it's just about to run but not running same with the clear coat get that as wet as possible right before it runs and that is perfect because they'll be shiny after that

And because it's Matt black or satin black it's the same color and shinyness of brand new panels that come on black from factory that makes new panels or specialty body panels for custom looks

I don’t want gloss. I prefer matte/satin finish. Plus it’s not stay black this is just temporary till I get it all painted white. It would have been weird to have a what hatch and blue car. At least the black looks better lol

you always end up orange peel finish, why you go right, left, backwards,and forward, you do not go overlap on spray loll, u don't go zikzak front and back, i do not understand all that sorry, if i end with orange peel,at least spray over 70 % cover edge,line, then sand it with 1600 grit to move all that orange peel and it will come PROFESSIONAL,

So I just got a 2012 Hyundai sonata GLS with a brand new motor brand new transmission brand new AC everything brand new and it from the dealership they did all the work because of recall well the paint job isn't exactly great but it's not faded or anything but it's got a lot of swirls and stuff in it and I just don't feel like wet sanding it and buffing it out because the clear coat is a little too thin so I would literally let you come to my house with my shop and use my air compressor or even your spray cans and come to a use it for KZbin video to do a paint job on it I will donate my car for you to do a video I will pay for the paint cans and everything that you need to do the video you just come and do the work cuz I hate doing body work lol even though I'm good at it. I'm 29 years old just restarted my life for the better. It's my daily driver. You can even paint my 2005 Chevy 2500 HD long wheel base 2 door truck that is a great truck paint just faded on it due to being 18 years old and when I got it the clear coat was thin cuse first owner decided to wet sand it and buff which he did good job besides taking off to much clear and few year later my hood is shot all faded clear so I got two vehicles for you to use for videos. I got a huge shop with a 1963 huge air compressor that was built for auto body shop for painting cars lol but it runs like a champ still and all the tools and air sanders and equipment you need to do the work faster so you can get to the spray painting part quicker. And I'll help do most of the prep work for you. And for plastic bumpers they sell a spray that you use and it etches the plastic microscopically so paint will never chip or flaks bit you need to use special automotive spray paint from auto body supply store for plastic cuse it's flexible and won't chip or crack ever and can be mixed in any color to match you want

Thank you so much for the offer but I don’t do mobile work for people and don’t do work for others in general anymore especially without having a business license for mechanic work. I can get away with it on my own car or familys vehicles for youtube because I get a 1099 for tax reasons from youtube but there are legal reasons and liability reasons I don’t have time to explain so I can’t do that stuff. I use to do it but now my channel has gained the wrong attention. The best I can do is DIY videos for people. Sorry. Appreciate the offer

Dont just tape the rubber gasket on the glass. Thats a fail point where the paint will chip off. Instead get a piece of string and stuff it under it so it lifts it up so u cand sand and paint up to and beneath it
