Hey Susan? What is the difference between a sinking fund and an emergency fund? I feel like they are similar in terms of they ar holding money for future use. Does this mean we need to build an emergency fund first before getting to the sinking funds?

Sinking funds are for a particular goal e.g. laptop, vacation, education. You know when you need the money and how much you need. Emergency funds are insurance for the future e.g. you lose your job and it contains at least 3 months worth of your monthly bills. There is no expected date of when or even if this will happen ( God forbid) You should work on both simultaneously but after building a 3 months emergency saving you should look at investing
