FAQ: 1. Why and when do you swap between speed and heal? I swap to speed when I want to move or when I need to move my team somewhere quickly, and default heal everywhere else. If you swap to speed, grab a wall and jump off, then swap back to heal, you get the extra distance from the speed boost but stay on heals. I also spam swap between them when I'm on the ground trying to dodge shots. It slightly affects how fast you're moving and can make you harder to hit, but only when you're on the ground AD strafing. 2. Where can I learn to wallride? I have two updated wallriding guides that I will link in the description if you're interested! 3. Is DPS support playstyle actually bad? The intro doesn't tell the full story because I didn't have time to explain everything! Yes, it is possible to have a more "dps support" playstyle in high elo, but it doesn't look ANYTHING like it does when the same high elo players are pubstomp smurfing. And yes! doing damage as support is a great way to have more impact than the other teams supports, BUT doing damage at the cost of letting your teammates die is completely throwing. It's all about when you're doing damage and how you're doing it, and I think that people who watch these DPS support guides and want to improve are being taught to go about it in the completely wrong way. As kiriko for example, keeping everyone alive and doing damage in between your heal bursts, as well as looking for plays when you KNOW nobody will die or when you HAVE to secure an elim to win a fight, thats good. But constantly flanking, ignoring your dps, and letting your other support die to deal damage is going to lose you so many games and that is EXACTLY what happens when you try to emulate that playstyle without being a smurf yourself! I believe that the best method to improve on support and learn how to deal more damage is to default to keeping your team alive as much as you can and gradually trying to find opportunities to do the damage in between that, rather than constantly flanking/dealing damage and learning by losing constantly and frustrating the heck out of your teammates. The same concept applies to Lucio and I am hoping that this video shows that! Default to protecting your teammates and having great speed boost timing and boops and ultimate usage. Then, as you get more comfortable on the hero and with wallriding and aiming his projectiles, you'll be able to see situations where you could have done more and go for those next time. I also think it's important that everyone realizes there are people who are top 5 in the WORLD on Lucio who have a very "healbot" playstyle. Simply protecting your other support, forcing out dps cooldowns, having really good amp/speed timing, and incredible ult usage is enough to take you as far as you would ever want to go. 4. When is it best to use beat? This depends on what ultimates the other team has! Beat is really good at countering things like grav or the enemy lucios beat, but not worth saving for things like a dragon or a high noon. You should almost always use it defensively, whether its countering an ult or if your teammate is 1hp. The only time you should use it aggressively is when you know for a fact the other team has nothing to counter it with, or nothing you need to save it for. For example, if i beat and then the enemy lucio waits a couple seconds and beats, they have the advantage. Or if I beat and they run away, then genji dragonblades us. 5. What matchups/comps would you switch off lucio? If you are deadset on one tricking him, you can, but its mostly just maps or very specific team comps I would swap off of him. Circuit royal, havana, junkertown, are all very long range maps where poke heroes like bap/illari/zen/kinda mercy shine, and the lucio speed boost just isnt enough to close the gap before you die. So I wouldn't play him there. Also if my other support is playing zen/illari/mercy, then we just dont have enough healing so I'll go kiriko or ana or moira or bap, depending on map/comp we are against. ALSO, if my other support is on bap or ana and we are against dive, brig is a better pick because I can keep them alive better. On map types like control, flashpoint, and push, lucio is pretty much required. 6. When to amp up heals? It's totally fine and good to amp up heals as long as your team doesn't need your amp for a speed engage (like rushing into the other team as fast as possible) or for a speed disengage (like running away from an ult). You can pretty much just default to amp heals aside from those situations with a few exceptions I probably missed. And if a teammate will die if you don't amp, always do it regardless of whether you need it for the rush. Your team can always wait for the cooldown, its better than letting someone die. 6. ill be updating this as more people ask questions

Assuming we should be using boop as a displacement tool, generally should we be focusing on booping bigger threats away from our team, or should we be focusing on booping vulnerable enemies towards our team? Also, against what matchups/comps should we just switch off of Lucio, if any?
@Eskay_OW8 ай бұрын
Aggressive beat drop is only good when you know the other team doesn’t have any ults to answer it with. If they have a defensive ult, you should save yours for when they use theirs, then beat. Or if they have an offensive one, same thing. Better off saving it unless they have nothing

I feel like people really undervalue just how much basic ult tracking can help. I'm not talking learning exactly how much damage/heals to build an ult, just keeping track of what ults they used and what ults they probably have. like if it's been 3 teamfights and they have not ulted, they probably have ult.
@shineyydesigns76968 ай бұрын
Absolutely. You can warn your teammates of things like D.Va bomb, Earthshatter, Death Blossom, Beat Drop, EMP and the like, which can save people from dying alot. Really like the way you explain things. I think not every aggressive support watched a guide, some of them are just metal and learning.... The biggest thing (having tried awkwards style) is that he never explains the overwhelming well developed intuition he has about how and when to engage/ disengage. Getting into a flanky position is easy, knowing how and WHEN to get out (or even that 'getting out' is part of the plan) Just looking for times when you're doing nothing or needlessly healing and filling those gaps should naturally develop someone into that aggressive style.

Eskay, this was insanely useful and entertaining. I've been wanting to learn Lucio, and this inspired me to give him a shot again. It's great to see someone who has mastered the character breaking down how to actually play him and be useful to the team. Clearly there is a lot of room for mechanical skill expression on Lucio, but that takes time to develop. The mindset for playing the character that you're showing here is way more important and provides a solid foundation to build those mechanics on. I got more out of watching a couple hours of this than every other unranked to GM combined. Also, I haven't been using comms since I started playing the game again, and I thought it was crazy that it took an hour of games before someone really said anything, and it was a transphobe flamer. kiriko is strong af imo, like, even if you don't use her dps capability (which a beginner shouldn't anyway because unlike someone like moira, kiriko it's totally mechanics based, her dps comes mostly from headshots), kiriko as a heal bot is super strong and having cleanse and a scape ability makes her straight up meta in some match ups and team comps

at 1:19:58, you say you're not doing anything impressive and it's really simple: don't die, and poke. But it's really simple to you because you know how to do those things effectively and you also know everything else that makes players exceptional (like ult tracking, techs, knowing where to fight, knowing enemy cooldown timing,...). You're also a master of a lot of heroes so you understand them fundamentally. Then after all of that, you have to master your character enough to not die and to live most engages.

Crazy how your first game is the same as mine today: I played luci against mauga, tracer and gengi on the same map 😮

Grandma really came in and said, “Why is my granddaughter dressed like that?!” Also I feel like even in higher ranks, when you have the game sense and mechanics to be going in solo as a support, you still shouldn’t because when you reach those higher ranks, it’s easier for you to get caught

heyaa my questions is can i start playing lucio and be usefull even tho i can't ride walls jump like you do?

Wallriding will get you to the place where you should be quicker. But knowing where you should be is more important than getting there quickly.

If I can climb in rainbow six siege with all communication off I can do it in overwatch. The best one to hit a toxic jerk with is "you're solo queuing" (or some variation with more sass) that shit hits for them. You can also be soloing, but something about that gets them really defensive, like it's not their choice to solo lmao, they just have no friends for very obvious reasons.
