Video description:
Whenever aspiring developers hear that they need to "network", it tends to illicit thoughts of stuffy networking events and social anxiety. I think people just over-complicate what networking really is about. It's just about building meaningful relationships with someone else you vibe with on some level. In this podcast episode, I shared my mindset and version of networking that I really think you should consider.

This is sooo spot on. The best connections I’ve made in tech were made from common interests outside of web development. The classmates, instructors, coworkers/employers I’ve stayed in touch with over the years are people who love video games, anime, working out, etc. treat people like PEOPLE not just “a connection” and it will feel more natural.

Exactly! That's the same for me as well - I kept in touch with people I had common interests in outside of coding. This sums it up perfectly: "treat people like PEOPLE not just “a connection” and it will feel more natural."

when in the job search, how do you balance: applying well, networking, leetcoding, learning something new, working on projects?

I've gone over this quite a few times over the years, so feel free to join in on the live Q&A's I host each Friday and we can dive into this topic more then. I'll give you a quick tip though. Drop "leetcoding" from your schedule.

9:39 I spent about 6 months in a small discord. Even tho I was mainly just posting about myself and what I was doing, others would often send links for me to look at. And now have a mentor I talk to almost every day :D It takes time and effort to become apart of something
