Today we are looking at the TOR Rail tanks and how they are best used. My hope is to demonstrate how good these vehicles are when NOT being used to camp the backline, and instead push objectives and decimate enemy vehicles. We discuss damage numbers, the best loadout, and some tips to wrap us up.

Hey Dan, great guide as always! The only thing that's worth adding, is that you can actually rotate the tank to make the turret turn while charging, it's hard to do at first but it's incredibly useful in certain situations.

As a TOR enjoyer I appreciate most of these tips and have heard them before. Interestingly I never really thought about using my coaxial canister shot vs aircraft, despite using the 20mm turret all the time to hit them. One thing I did learn was the lack of front armour. That’s really useful to know! I can just sit side on and get ready to zoom out of an area.

It shreds them man. Especially Stealths since they have such a massive frame, making hitting all of your pellets easier, and share the same damage model as Nightbirds, so they tear apart like wet tissue paper! Bit late to the show, but I wanted to add 2 things. The TOR can climb pretty much any surface as long as its not vertical. It can climb them with a speed that make it look like a whale breaching. You are like Roach from Witcher or the horses from TESIV Oblivion. I cant tell you the number of times I've escaped on El-Alamein by dipping on the side of a mountain, then popping back up after the other vehicle commits to the drop. Its also fun to sit on the side of a mountain and fire at them as they crest since their barrel can't depress far enough. The other thing is the TOR's cannon will jump if you are hit with a shell right before you finish charging. So if you get the timing down you can force other TOR's to miss shots. You can see it happen at 10:32 in your video. Other than that i recommend trying the Repair System for a couple of games of All Out Superiority. Pop it in a 1v1 when you get hit by a shell to get most of that hp back. Roll back into cover and pop repair. The trade off is any tick of damage turns it off but you get it back sooooooo quickly.

It definitely was, because if you were being rushed by a C5 player and you didn't have time to counter them with your secondary you had no chance. With the MBT you could use your main gun, but with the charge time on the rail rounds it was impossible. Now with the coaxial canister round you can completely shut down these players making them much more viable when actually playing the objective. I would recommend re-trying them out. Great vid, what a 'Shining' ending! Got to ask though (for my own understanding), haven't we missed something extremely important here? I'm messing around with the TOR myself and one of the things I've really been playing around with is how the speed of the projectile varies (slows) as you raise the elevation of the barrel. Provided you are below 6 (gauge on your right in ADS view) the projective speed is totally unaffected by the nerf. Up to 10, you have a second speed and finally above 10 there's a third, even slower speed. To me, this is by far the biggest change to the TOR primary weapon. You can bypass the effect of this if, as you said to get a higher reach, angle the TOR on a hill so you're aiming higher without actually elevating the barrel. Basically, you can completely bypass DICE's nerf on projectile speed. Can't do anything about damage drop off though, it's no longer one-shot across the map. Have I misunderstood this?

This starts at 6 degrees and reaches its maximum impact by 12 degrees, weapons will fire roughly half their original speed at 12 degrees". The TOR shot varies based on the elevation. Basically if you're fighting against vehicles no problem. If you raise the barrel to shoot at an aircraft, the projectile speed is penalised twice over. This is in addition to the damage reduction. Basically they nerfed it hard, but as I was saying -- you can bypass this effect by using the terrain. Hope it helps!

I'm glad someone saw the Shining ending! I wasn't sure anyone would since most people dip out as soon as the outro starts xD See I tried to figure out this patch note, and I couldn't find any noticeable difference. The weapon still feels almost hit scan even when aiming up at maximum. I thought this speed might be referring to charge speed which is why in the charge time video windows for each section I aim straight for one shot then aim up for the other to demonstrate they are the same speed charge speed. They definitely aren't as fast as they were upon release, but I haven't noticed elevation playing a significant part in this. Either way for me they are still quite easy to hit aircraft with. I definitely agree with the damage at far range nerf. A good move on DICE's part in my opinion. At least if you get hit by a spawn camper now you don't just lose immediately and can actually react.

It's infuriating, I swear spawn camping Wildcats are the cause of 80% if the "Choppers need nerfing" reddit posts. If you are playing armour correctly, pushing objectives and supporting infantry, and the enemy isn't you have a massive advantage.

Excellent tor guide, I really need to spend some time in this tank again soon to get it to t1, I've been spending most of my time in jets (since I'm already way past t1 in helis) in the ram which is also t1 for me or on foot but I'm gonna go for a tor next time I haven't used the new coaxial much

It's just such a waste. I think currently the Wildcat campers are the current bane of 2042. It's completely useless sitting at the back of the map and in contrast is completely amazing when being used to push and kill aircraft!

I used a combination of long range, medium range and ambush tactics while using the TOR I'm not going to lie it's pretty effective not only that I use the coaxial canisters as a means of self-defense or suppressing enemies

Camping in this tank is pointless because the terrain of most maps will be a detriment to it, if some one hides behind a hill or rocks or whatever then having a projectile that only shoots straight will hinder you. The main tanks and the ability to shoot over cover if they arc their shots accurately and they have favorable terrain.

Camping in most tanks is pointless to be fair. Yeah, you can come out with a decent K/D, but if you sat there and didn't capture objectives or support infantry then you'll ultimately lose the game to an enemy team who does these things.

There is always going to be one 'best' ground vehicle that has the advantage over others. Honestly if you have a full squad in a MBT I think you would have the advantage over a TOR with the right combination of second and third seat options. Like most ground armour, a few engineers with RPGs or M5s can make pretty short work of it. In terms of full-on counter, if you get on top of a TOR with an attack chopper, they are pretty much dead as long as you fly high and never let them get a main turret shot on you.

They need to make it to where if you are in your own deployment in a ground vehicle or sniping that your damage is reduced to 50%, maybe that would move some campers out. It’s been an issue for well over a decade tho at this point.

question what tank is better in what situation? from your guides it seems you use the mbt and tor tank for the same thing. but wouldnt that mean one is objectively better for that purpose?

You are correct. They do the same things! The TOR is more of a heavy hitter and is really the best of the two at hunting armour. It is easier to use at long range since you don't have to account for shell drop over distance. The MBT has multiple seats so if you have three squadmates or more you can get the most out of it, with a 2nd, 3rd and potentally 4th passenger. The MBT also has more varied shell options, if you want to specialize towards anti-infantry (HE Shells), or SOFLAM targets (STAFF Shells). I wouldn't say one is strictly better than the other, but in a 1v1 fight the TOR wins everytime.

It's just a different experience. Both can do really well. MBT is really good with a full crew. You also have more flexibility with the main cannon rounds: HE, MPAT, or STAFF.

I will say, I am a Recon Main (taking a break and working on all weapons atm) but I wont lie. I've been using it as a sniper from range. I can see the comments/reply's coming now. But after seeing this, I do agree that it is fantastic up close and I'm so sad I don't see this tank more often in games. It does fantastic damage, whether against ground or air vehicles and even soldiers. I'm still working on getting the Coaxial Canister and I cant wait. Once that is unlocked, I will DEFINETLY be roaming to annoy all armored vehicles and players. I love the video though, I do appreciate the tips, especially when it comes to the main weapons and gunner weapons. I wish I had a mouse that's not glitchy so I can pre-charge up shots properly

I suspect that in a Wargaming tank game, there might be a bit more vehicle nuisance than in BF, since it's their main focus. I will say that the 2042 tank combat has come a long way from where it was. It used to be that MBTs and TOR tanks were garbage because of their horrible acceleration and slow down speed.

It has it's weaknesses for sure. If you get on top of it with a chopper it is most likely dead if you make sure you don't fly too low and allow it to get any shots off. Any just like any vehicle a few engineers with RPGs or M5s can make quick work of it. I personally don't think that it needs nerfing.

It 1000% needs nerfing! It can win any duel against any vehicle in the game. The fact it one shots air vehicles and goes through APS is overpowered in itself. Plus the almost instant velocity, reward camping mode, and no warning makes it completely over the top. The chances of a heli getting close enough for a kill is slim if they have *any* game sense at all. And even then, most of them can just hop out of the tank and lissle you anyways. "A few engineers" never target anything but nightbirds because they're braindead. Not once have I seen somebody go out of their way to kill a tor. @@marzipandan767

​@@marzipandan767 yes it does. i know vehicles per se are meant to counter each other, but theres no justification for the tor to be such a brutal counter to any other vehicle. You dont have to do such insane amounts of damage, with no ballistics at all, and with your shots not being interrupted by APS, while interrupting the shots of any other vehicle with your APS. Its a little bit better since now you cant disable the other vehicle from shooting by switching seats to EMP them, but its still ridiculous. A very good player should still be able to somehow win a fight against a bad player, even if his vehicle is meant to counter the other one. Thats the case in Jets vs Helis, in AA vs aurcrafts, RAM vs MBTs, IFVs vs MBTS, etc. Not with the TOR however. You cannot win against that tank while youre in any other ground vehicle than the TOR. It has so many ways to protect itself from your shots, your APS doesnt work against them, distance - and therefore requiring more skill to hit shots - is always in the TORs favor no matter how bad the player actually is, and so on.

Trick with the TOR is to just ram into. It's aps will go and will struggle to hit in close quarters. The cav is actually an awesome counter with the ram technique. Almost everytime the TOR ends up on top with the adps getting free reign to slam into it's belly.
