Does the sata port of the optical drive is sata 2 or 3? I think its sata 2 so i' this case ssd won't be useful cuz sata is speed limited to 250mbs Sata 3 is 650 We would be lucky if the optical drive sata on th the ideapad 330 is sata 3!

Possibly it would be SATA 3 only because, my 5 year old lenovo budget laptop had a SATA 3 for both HDD as well as ODD. I now installed SSD in place of ODD and now it's working like a charm.

@@abhishekgaor I ordered it Dec 25, 2018 and it arrived last week of January 2019. I am from Philippines and the item(SATA Adapter) came from China. It took me just 5 minutes to install the SSD. It was a very easy installation I must say. :) Thanks to this video.

the SSD is used for better performance as you already know which is mainly for running OS and other applications. While the HDD does not have a space so caddy is used and thereby you still get the same speed of HDD as connected to its usual SATA connection. That is why he put the HDD separately for storage purposes and the SSD to speed up working performance.

If you will use the dummy cd drive you don't need to buy a caddy. The dummy cd drive can hold the SSD. You just need to but the data connector. Follow the link he gave in the description to get the the details of description of the sata connector and use that to search for it on you preferred shops. That's what I did and I ended up finding it on my online retailer which is not ali express...big difference as you end up with a clean look and I was able to do it myself without voiding my laptop warranty....hope this helps

@wrecking_ball the link is iin the description under sata adaptor. since this is aliexpress i just used it to get the description of the item and searched for it on our local version of aliexpress here in the philippines (lazada or shoppee)... saved a lot on shipping fees . hope this helps

remove the current HDD on your pc and as in the video install it on the DVD writer and the SSD, install it on the previous location the HDD was!

doesn't generate that much heat. It depends on how often you used that HDD. i would prefer to use the HDD in the caddy as for storage purposes only.

This worked on my 330 15arr. Installed the new SSD in the dummy using the adaptor and made it my boot drive. Now have a 256gb SSD boot boot and the original 1tb is now my data drive. loved this method than buying a caddy as I didn't have to even open up the laptop and potentially void my warranty..

He showed the caddy but he ended up buying the sata connector and using that and the dummy cd drive caddy to mount a 2nd hdd instead. Not sure if your ideapad has the same but I have a 330 15arr and I used this method and ended up with a cleaner install than if I used a 3rd party caddy....

SATA adapter/converter is not available locally, only AliExpress which does not ship to India now. Also SSD in the caddy is not detected, so need to have SSD in place of current HDD slot & use the HDD with the caddy. Using any of the usual caddy that is available in flipkart/Amzn does not look nice, quite a bit of gap !!
