I used to do the same thing with a small piece of flexible intruder wire. Works really well, but now I go a different route. I use JB Weld Quiksteel to shape a keeper on my texas hooks that looks very close to the zman lead chinlockz. I experimented with a few different mediums for this style. One that worked well was oven bake polymer clay, but after time they started to deteriorate. I was at the auto parts store and saw the quiksteel and it just made sense. It is an epoxy that bonds to the steel in the hook, so it's as tough as the lead ones without the extra weight, and those of you that don't want to invest in a vise can do it super easy! Side note, the quiksteel can irritate your skin, so take appropriate measures to mitigate skin contact.

Thanks for the tips. The thing I actually like about your tips is that I might actually use it. Not many people can actually do that 👍

Little trick from a fly tying addict. Keep your bobbin closer to the hook. Makes tying on much easier and quicker. Learn a whip finish will hold better than a half hitch

I'm too lazy. I learned from BassResouce to just push a short piece of 60lb mono through the top of the worm and the hook eye, then clip the ends off even with the plastic. Hold the worm up fine.

Great idea but far too much work. A #4 barrel swivel does a much better job and doesn't tear soft plastics (I prefer welded/solid ring b/c old school wire wrap swivels cling to grass) . Simply slide one on line BEFORE tying hook, thread nose of bait on hook, then thread hook point through the remaining open eye of barrel, then thread body of bait onto hook. KZbin 'Texas Riggin with Parasite Clips' for an example. 10/10 for saving money and catching 10x's amount of fish per bait.
