How to frame out to your huge builder mirror easily. Save money over the mirror kits sold online and it will look just just as good and be just as durable.
We looked into the peel & stick mirror frames and they were very expensive. The hardest part of this project was the painting. You could also opt to do a stain instead of paint. In the end we saved a lot and love the look.
Below you will find the list of items used to make this frame for our bathroom mirror.
- Pre-Primed 1x4 Pine Boards - homedepot.sjv....
- Miter Saw or Hand Saw
- Handheld Sander or Sandpaper
- Caulking Gun. Scroll to the bottom if you are interested in the Ryobi in the video
- Painters Tape
- Paint of your choice
- Polyurethane Spray Coating - amzn.to/30Aqiz7
- Loctite PL 530 - homedepot.sjv....
This Ryobi Caulking Gun seems laughable or like a waste of money, but it has gotten a ton of use around here and is well worth the $40 spent on it. ($50 at the time of this video but it goes on sale often) homedepot.sjv.... or you can find it on Amazon amzn.to/3d2Nv1J

Love the straight edge idea vs having to cut angles with a miter. Looks doable for me. Thank you!

PS: can’t wait to do this. I hate sheet mirror but you’re exactly right that it’s glued and a nightmare to replace. The frame you did here makes ALL the difference!

My mirror has those bulky mirror clips that won’t allow the wood to lay flat. What’s the solution?

@@iridianarm4373 Get a dremel and take out the area where the clips are. Drill a space for them. Mark it first to make sure you are in the correct spot. Then it will fit over the clips.

Hi LTT, looking at your pretty tile floor. We have not so pretty ceramic flooring. Not awful just not nice. We’re definitely replacing it in the public spaces but in the baths and laundry of love to duplicate that look. I’ve seen stencils but worry about overspray and smears. Also, what paint and prep might I need so it adheres long term? Would you feel like doing a vid trying one out. You seem to have the steps down-pat when it comes to dressing things up and I’d love to leave the awful tile replacement project to the areas where there’s no option. Thoughts??

Thanks for the compliments :) We have never done any tile painting, but I have heard cutting edge stencils makes a good product.

My medicine cabinets and mirror are in the same position as yours, my question is when you open the door of the medicine cabinet doesn’t get block by the wooden frame?

It’s doesn’t. We made sure before starting all of the work though. We just cut a piece and put it there to see how much clearance there would be.

Do you need to put caulk where the mirror meets the bottom frame? To prevent water from going in between?

Do you get the wood cut to the exact mirror size or do you add an extra inch to the length of all sides?

Does the adhesive dry clear or if you happen to get some near the edges, will you see it in the reflection? Beautiful bathroom & excellent job on the mirror. It is a more simple way of cutting but it looks way more modern than a mitered cut mirror frame.
@moderngreyfarmhouse
@moderngreyfarmhouse Жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry I didn’t see this sooner. It’s not clear so you have to try to stay away from the edges. We did get some near the edges and you can see it in the reflection but it’s not too bad.

What kind of wood did you get? I did this and my wood got all bowed and I wasn’t able to glue it to the mirror. The end were not flush with the mirror.

These were pre primed pine 1x4 sometimes it takes 45 minutes at Lowe’s at Home Depot to find boards that are straight. I do find the preprimed boards tend to be more straight.

Since it was going to get wet potentially from out faucets we added it for extra protection from moisture. Our faucets are higher up than most since we have elevated sinks.

I don’t mind the edges. Since this wood isn’t the cheapest we didn’t want to risk messing it up. Learning more as we go. Our other 2 mirrors we still need to frame out he might do miters.
