Do you have an update that says how to do this with the new version of SharePoint? MS's site still has instructions that match yours, but I don't have classic view.

So can the Excel sheet link back to a sharepoint list and thus be live data?

Hi! Yes, of course, you can do that. First of all, add all your data inside a table on your excel sheet. Now in SharePoint Online, select the below options to link the Excel list to the SharePoint list: Select New > List > Create a new list name > Then, select the excel sheet list to be linked, by clicking on the upload option or by selecting the excel sheet from the document library > now the excel sheet list will be displayed > Next, you can set the column types as needed > Click Create option. Definitely, all your data on the excel sheet list will be linked to your SharePoint list. Finally, your excel sheet data will be live on your SharePoint list.

@@Dock365 I have created a connection between my Excel file and the SP list, but the web part doesn't automatically update when the list is updated. Rather, I have to open up the Excel file, refresh the data, save the file back to my SP library, then refresh the page the web part is on.

@@Run4itForever Hi, you have to configure Refresh control for the data fetching. This is a common scenario. After that, you can display the data using the Excel Web Access web part.
