Anne, you absolutely killed it! Ever since the days of using Pagemaker, I have been amazed how using paragraph and character styles can make updating layout soooo much easier. InDesign does table of contents wonderfully. Thank you for the very informative video, I'm sure folks will get a lot of use out of it.

Muchas gracias por esta publicación. Fenomenal vídeo de verdadera profesional de InDesign que, últimamente, se echan de menos a profesionales de verdad. 👌🏻

When you double-click a style name in InDesign, the application applies the style to the selected text and opens the editing form. I believe this behavior is an overlooked bug because logically, double-clicking should only open the style for editing. To avoid this, get in the habit of right-clicking the style name and selecting "Edit..." from the menu. Alternatively, ensure the text cursor is placed within text that already uses the style before editing. Perhaps it's not considered a bug, as it allows users to both apply and edit the style in one action!

You're right, it would be nice to have separate controls for applying and editing styles! - I would especially love to be able to apply keyboard shortcuts to the styles (that don't require a number pad).

Hold Cmd+Opt+Shift (on Mac) when you double-click a style name and it will not apply that style. And, yes, non-numpad shortcuts would be nice.

@@unhandleme I just tired that shortcut and it worked! Thanks for that. But it's a complex keyboard combination!

@@dulajun You’re welcome! Yeah, it’s a handful. I use it countless times a day, but had to go to my computer last night to be certain what it was.
