Just purchased a Marantz 6014 amp and currently running a 7.2.2 system. Wanting to add 2 more height atmos speakers. I understand you plug into the pre out height 2 on the Marantz amp but where would you plug into on the external 2 channel amp. I also understand that you plug the new height speakers into the external amp and I’m guessing that you control the volume of the new height speakers from the external amp. Is the volume a preference that you control as needed? Thanks

Hello Techno Dad. This video is really nice and helpful, but I have a question about another DENIN X2400H that I own. In the instructions for connecting an additional amplifier to the device, it says to connect ZONE2 on the AVR to the AUX input on the amplifier, of course via an RCA cable. I would like to amplify only the front speakers like this, to get a better stereo sound when listening to music. Do you have any experience with this and can you tell me if I would get a better sound with a good amp than my DENON. So would the sound have the characteristics of this other amplifier? Thanks for your reply and I wish you all the best.

HI TD, I'm little old school in this so my question is: Can you get the same loudness from 4 Elac Shelf speakers? Because I'm having a super tough time with this. The main speakers are loud and the second set is super weak and not even close in sound. I'm not using my ONKYO TX-RZ620 AVR with a TV only my Turntable. Maybe you know what I'm doing wrong. I'm also contemplating on getting the external amp because i have to crank this thing up past 50 just to get some volume.

@uprajsingh6 жыл бұрын
That would 140Watt per channel only for the amp that you have added. Its just that you will not be using the power of HT7800 as what is advertised is not entirely true. So if you use 7 channels of HT7800 it is not 100W/ch in reality .. it should be around 60 or 70w max :)

Ultimately very efficient speakers will do the trick if you are doing a living room system or in a situation where you cant crank it. But in a dedicated room where you want to hit reference level, additional amps for the front sound stage is the way to go. Or even better...sensitive speakers AND plenty of power. The best of both worlds.

Ooh… I was ***wondering*** what on Earth the Audiophiliac was going on about when-during one of his celebratory videos of the Klipsch RP600M bookshelf speakers (which I was convinced to acquire)-he made a comment in passing, while **celebrating** how easy they were to drive, that they would make use of the power “*if you had it*.” I had bought what is considered a “*powerful*” Onkyo receiver from a list of the Top Ten AirPlay 2 AVRs of 2019, to feed the “*power hog*” ELAC Uni-Fi UB5 bookshelf speakers Steve G. and the posse had convinced me to acquire not long before the Klipsch. I remain confident the ELACs will ***feast*** on the Crown XLi 1500, but I must admit, the much more sensitive Klipsch remained a source of curiosity.

Hi Matt, great question! With a power amp, you will only have one volume to deal with. There are two ways to look at it. If you run YPAO without the amp connected, and then connect the amp, the channels you're powering from the amp are going to be louder than the others. If you connect the amp and then run YPAO, everything will sound more balanced.

Question. I have the Denon x3400h. If I buy an amp to power the LCR channels through the pre outs, can I use the amps that are left on the Denon for LCR channels for other channels? Maybe Atmos?

you can

So I have an older kenwood av receiver and a kenwood amp. Do I hook up the power amplifier to the av receivers pre outs ? Also when I do the sound only works with the pro logic and surround settings but not in bypass .ode which is regular stereo mode . But when I hook my speakers just to the av receiver it works fine in stereo mode. Any help would be great thanks

What do do you think about a Niles S 2125 with a Yamaha 3600 H series receiver? It seems like it would be perfectly matched to drive my old school Sony floor standing front speakers but at the same time drive the surrounds properly. And then allow my receiver to do the rest of the heavy lifting for the surround back and Dolby speakers etc. based in on this video it seems perfect but I’m just trying to make sure. It was a gift btw!!

Maybe a stupid question. I recently picked up a Emotiva xpa-3 gen 3 amplifier. I am powering myself front three speakers on that amp. What happens to the power that once went to those speakers when they were directly connected to my Pioneer Lx 503. Does the power go unused or is it diverted to the connected speakers?

Hello Techo dad, I need your pro advise on a setup, I am setting up 7.2.4 in my main media room as Zone 1, and for this I am going with Marantz 8015 to do the job. However, I am adding 2 ceiling speakers in dinning (as zone 2) and 2 in family area as (zone 3), Plz advise me which amp I need to hook-up with 8015 to do the job, my preference is Marantz, and I need your assistance how to make connection between these two amps. Thanks
@TechnoDad2 жыл бұрын
Hi! You would need to get a 4-channel amplifier and connect Zone 2 and Zone 3 pre-outs for the other rooms. Remember that you can only send an analog signal to Zone 2 & 3.

Techno Dad.. Question. How to connect trigger if you add two Emotiva Basx A3 in one av receiver? that only one input and outpout of trigger?.
@mikedinno84135 жыл бұрын
This may be a stupid question but would your front stage with the external amp now dominate the surrounds that's being powered by the AVR? How do you equalize the power to all speakers? My Pioneer Elite receiver only has a left and a right and no center. So I guess I'm screwed? Would that completely dominate my center where I wouldn't be able to hear it?

Great question Mike! Just rerun your speaker calibration and you're good to go!

Any recommendations if I have a denon AVR-s540bt and it does not have pre outs? Guess I’d need to splurge on a new AVR?
@TechnoDad3 жыл бұрын
Hi Drew! Yeah, you are correct. You will need an AVR with pre-outs. Just make sure the next one you get, it'll have pre-outs and it's something you can grow into, like the Denon X3700H.

My Onkyo TX-NR757 doesn’t have a pre out section. Can you do a google search and look at the back and tell me what my best option is? Looking to get an external amp and can’t figure out how I would go about connecting it, or should I just give up on this receiver and get a better receiver. It’s a great one and I hate to have to get a new one, but will if I have to.
@TechnoDad6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, you would have to get a new AVR. If you like Onkyo, you would need something like the RZ820 (amzn.to/2P1sdE8) $499 right now. It'll give you a little bit more power and has the pre-outs for all 7 channels. But, if you're going to plunk down that much money, I would suggest saving up a little more and looking at the RZ730 (amzn.to/2E0zbIH) as it can process 9 channels and has pre-outs for upgrading power later on.

Hi, I'm looking to add a basX 6 ch amp to my denon x8500HA to run my 6 hight ch's but I'm already running a basX 3ch amp for my front speaker. How do I do this please as don't know how to pre out on this amp. Thanks Neil
@clubwich183 жыл бұрын
Where do you plug into the amp? Do the speakers plug directly into amp or receiver? Do you connect speakers between amp and receiver somehow?
@TechnoDad3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, the signal path will go from AVR > out via RCA > into amplifier > out to speakers. So you will connect the speakers into the external amp.

Great video, I have a question about seanario one. I have a brand new Yamaha RXA 3070. I want to get all 11.2 channels operating. How important is the 2 channel amp to drive one pair of the height speakers? Can I use a small D class amp at 50 watts or do I need to look for more power?

Exactly what I'm looking for. I have some RTIa9's and my piddly little reciever isn't driving those 500W peak speakers properly. I need something to give them an extra power boost.

Hi I have Denon AVR-X3300W which I'm using in a 5.1.2 configuration. I also have a couple of older (currently unused) Pioneer receivers (VSX-920 and VSX-S510) I'm looking to expand my X3300W config to 5.1.4. COuld I use one of spare receivers as a power amp rather than buy another dedicated amp? Thanks

Can you apply this to a 11.2 receiver to make it 13.2? I'm looking at getting the Marantz SR8015.
@TechnoDad3 жыл бұрын
Hi EB! Yes, you can! A small two channel amp to power your third set of height channels or your front wides. OR...you can get a larger 5 channel amp to power your front stage and you'll be good to go! If you are in the US and want to save a little money on the SR8015, we have some in stock. Shoot me an email - technodad@dreamediaav.com

In the Anthem MRX720, you said we can add height speakers preouts to external amplifier but will it make this AVR 9 channels. I mean 7 powered outputs and then I am adding two height preouts to external amplifier. How would that be possible? This AVR can only process 7 channels. Please respond. Thank You so much.

Hi! The MRX720 can process 11 channels. Right now I have it running a 9 channel setup.

When you assign your denom front ,right and left pre outs to external amplifier, what are you going to do with denon front,right and left speaker outs, can I use it to height speakers or just waste the watts output from those speakers outs
@TechnoDad3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Unfortunately, you can't re-route the audio signals going to those speaker terminals. It's just "wasted wattage."

Hi Techno Dad, I have a 135 watt 9.2 atmos pioneer receiver and I have all klipsch speakers. The fronts L and R are 150 watt RMS and the rest including the center speaker are 100 watts and the my sub is a 12in 350 watt RMS Klipsch sub. I was thinking about getting an external amp for the the fronts L and R because I was thinking that I was under powering them but after watching ur video I'm thinking about just adding a 2ch amp. Do you know of a good affordable 2ch amp? Thank you for ur videos!!!

So you can do this with any 2 receivers? I have the Denon AVR-X4400H and the Denon AVR-S710W. Would I be using the 710 as the main receiver and the 4400 as the secondary?

Hi! I would use the X4400H with a power amplifier. I'll have a video about the Outlaw Model 5000 and the X4400H up on Thursday this week.
