How to add and install 3rd Party Kontakt Libraries [Kontakt 6, Kontakt 7]

HOW TO LOAD 3RD PARTY KONTAKT LIBRARIES
In this video I’ll be showing how to load libraries that run in the full version of Kontakt - so do subscribe for more videos like this and ring the bell to keep up to date with our notifications.
Firstly, a quick explanation: Native Instruments Kontakt sample player comes in two versions… the free Kontakt Player, and Kontakt - sometimes referred to as Kontakt Full or Kontakt Retail.
For those using Kontakt Player, your libraries will show up in the LIBRARIES tab - to the left hand side of the main Kontakt window. The libraries tab will display only licensed Kontakt libraries - so just the ones that are Kontakt Player compatible. You can browse instruments here and just double-click to load.
For libraries that run only in the full version of Kontakt, you need to load them in from the file browser, quick load menu or just drag them into the window. Here’s how:
Most sample libraries have a main folder that contains both the instrument files or folders with an NKI suffix and other folders and files which relate to samples, snapshots, presets or documentation.
To load instruments into kontakt you need the files with NKI suffixes - you can find these either in the main library folder or within a dedicated INSTRUMENTS folder - and you can just drag each individual NKI file into Kontakt and just start playing - it’s as simple as that.
Here are some other ways to load instruments:
Kontak also has its own FILE BROWSER just HERE that will mimic your own computer’s folder structure - so you can find your NKI files there and double-click or drag them to load them.
There’s also a Quickload option HERE, where you can organize your own favorite folders and files using a structure unique to your copy of Kontakt - this covers Multis, Banks, and Instruments. For example, the quick load is useful if you want to keep instrument patches from different libraries all in the same place. Add and name your new folders and drag in the NKI folders or files to make your own bespoke database.

I shouldn't have to use windows explorer to find the instrument and drag and drop it in and then also direct it to find the "Resources.nkr" file every single time I want to use the instrument. I should just be able to find it in the libraries as an instrument. This is the dumbest design.

This tends to happen when you attempt to load FULL Kontakt-only libraries into Kontakt Player. In other words, if the library which you bought requires full Kontakt software to run (ex. if it is listed as "Kontakt 6+ compatible" under system requirements), any attempts to load it into Kontakt PLAYER (which is a stripped-down free version) will result in your library being limited to running in Demo mode, only. Even if you paid for the full software. Moreover, similar demo-only limited operational modes can sometimes arise if you are attempting to load your library within an outdated version of full Kontakt software. For instance, if your purchased library's system requirements are listed as "For Kontakt 6.7+" but you only own Kontakt 5 or earlier. Although most often, instead of Demo-only constraints occuring in such cases, you will more likely see a screen promp pop up, instructing you to "please update your Kontakt software to version x.x" before your library can run. So, in short, most instances of demo-only limited operability of otherwise fully-unlocked purchased libraries with valid licensing/athentication is the result of attempting to run such libraries with FULL Kontakt-dedicated software requirements inside of Kontakt Player.

Is there a way to have them pinned in the libraries tab? Alot of people use Kontakt, but I can't get passed all the unnecessary impediments. Most of the time I just end up using something else, It's a shame that you have to do that; And I think spending $700 doesn't justify not having to spend 2 min just to find a patch. Ridiculous

Whenever I load a .nki file into Kontakt the volume is extremely low. Does anyone else have the same problem? If I load an Instrument from my library, the volume is normal.

That means you’re not using the full (paid) version of Kontakt, you’ve loaded them into the free Kontakt Player.

@@francoisbonet289 But how to load 16+ is the deal. Because 16 is very limited to more advanced works like orchestration for instance. And even if you load multiple instances, the channeling stays the same, aka channel one will affected in instance 2 for channel 2 regardless of the instruments used. Not useful

@@Metalpazallteway If you have ever checked tutorials from Alex Moukala, it seems to use several instances of Kontakt, each loaded with 16 instruments. From what, I just read in different forums, this is a good compromise between RAM and CPU usage while putting more than 16+ instruments in one Kontakt instance would start being CPU intensive. But it wouldn't hurt to have a good tutorial for using channels B, C or D in Kontakt (It might be DAW dependent). Cheers!

For the 16+ instruments on a single Kontakt, you need to go the MIDI scripting road. The guy behind BRSO articulate has an extension script for using the channel beyond #16 in Kontakt: www.syntheticorchestra.com/articulate/midixtend/ I just gave it a try and the script doesn't seem to work with Kontakt 6 (after working around the obsolete guidance to match Kontakt 6). It might (probably will) work if you are using Kontakt 5 or 4 in FL Studio with BRSO articulate...

Hi... But why in my folders there are no "Instruments"? Only documents and racks. "Instruments" compare only in the Kontakt libraries, but for libraries like "Blocks Base", "TRK-1 Bass" etc no instruments to insert! I have the full Kontakt 6 since one day and gonna throw the pc out of the window!

Hi, those that you mentioned are not Kontakt instruments, they are for Reaktor. You can download the free Reaktor Player to use those, or you may already own the full version of Reaktor if you have purchased Komplete in the past.

is there any way to get the sample libraries (.wav's) to show up in the kontakt GUI via the right facing arrows up top so you can scroll through them? i'm having to drag and drop samples manually into the .nki and would rather be able to scroll for them WITHIN kontakt.

Exactly, total bullshit. It's why I don't use Kontakt, wish I could just find something else that uses the format "nki", I'll just make my own directories. Converting the damn things to VST would be even more seamless; So I basically wouldn't have to open 2 different programs

1:47 that's not possible. you can't drag and drop it over! I'm trying right now and it straight up doesn't work. I can't add anything to the quick laod window besides a new empty folder that contains nothing. Useless!

Yes, it is possible. Make sure you are selecting the .nki file, but you can also drag and drop folders over. Make sure the quick load tab says "Instruments" for nki files, as you can't drag multis into the instrument tab, or instruments into the multis tab, etc. If it doesn't work, try to close and reopen the Kontakt window, or remove the instance and add a new one, or try restarting your DAW, in that order.

That means you’re trying to load a Kontakt Player library in the file browser. Kontakt Player libraries will need to be registered via Native Access with your serial number before you can use them, and they will show up in the library panel on the left side of the main interface.

Any chance you could a video for assigning MIDI in Kontakt? Some libraries indicate what knobs or sliders in Kontakt are linked to what CCs (Red Room Audio Sketchpad for example) but most of them don't... That makes using midi out or other utilities for me in FL Studio a little bit tedious. I'm not sure what the exact process is even if there are a few videos explaining it already. THANKS! (I can't figure out also how to use my keyboard controls directly with Kontakt... probably another story or video...).
