How To Add Custom Text In iMovie (MacMost

macmost.com/e-... It can be difficult to get text to look good in iMovie since you can only choose from a limited number of title options. But you can use a graphics app or Keynote to create any text you want, and then overlay that text on your video. By copying a frame of your video, you can adjust the text to look good in Keynote, and then export just the text as a transparent image. This text can fit the video perfectly, or be used as a resizable and moveable element to position in iMovie.

As iMovie "Titles" was always weak, limited and unstable, its completely worthless now. This may look like extra work, but considering the wasted time with iMovie TITLES as is, This is faster. Thanks -jm

No, iMovie doesn't have anything like that. But a quick search in the app store brings up a telestrator app.

I was using an old Windows movie editor and was able to do it but only using the mouse. Maybe in time I will find the right product. Thanks for the quick response.

Hi, I just tried this following your instructions. However, when I try to add the PNG file of the text created in Keynote, I cannot add it into iMovie. I wonder if it’s no longer possible to do this? I’m using iMovie 10.3.5. I just get a gray circle with a line through it when I try and drop the PNG into iMovie

Definitely still possible. Are you dragging and dropping the file from the Finder? Is maybe the file in iCloud and not cached locally? What happens if you double-click on it to view it in Preview first, then drag it into iMovie?

@@macmost Hi, thanks for your reply. I was dragging and dropping the file from Finder. It seems the issue was that I was trying to drag and drop the folder that Keynote was creating when it exported the png from Keynote. I just realised that I needed to drag and drop the PNG file from within that folder of course, doh! I thought I was trying to import the PNG file, did not realise I was only dragging and dropping the folder (which was why iMovie would not accept it)

Did exactly what you said. Tried multiple times starting from a new file each time. Even when I select "No Color" for the background, I still do not get the transparent option when trying to export as a PNG file. Not sure why. Had to use photoshop. Worked like a charm!
