1. Leave The Door Open When You Shower
Let the steam escape from your bathroom and into the home be leaving the shower open when you shower.
2. Boil Water
Using a teapot on the stove (versus heating a mug in the microwave) to heat water for your tea will help release moisture into the air.
3.Get Plants
Houseplants can help in adding humidity to your home. How? Plants continuously release moisture from their leaves and stems of plants as vapor. This process is called transpiration and as long as you keep them watered, they will help aid in regulating humidity levels in your home.
4. (1) Put Bowl(s) Of Water On Top Of Registers
I’ve tried this trick and it works. Simply place a metal bowl (or ceramic) on top of your floor register or a radiant heating unit. Depending on the current humidity levels in your home (and how much your heat is blasting) the water will evaporate into the air in your home. For me, it takes about a week for the water to fully evaporate in a medium-sized metal dog bowl.
4. (2) Put Bowl(s) Of Water On Windowsills
If your registers are on the wall or ceiling, try placing a bowl or vase on a sunny windowsill. The warmth from the daily sun will gently warm the water and it’ll evaporate slowly into your air.
5. Let Your Clothes Air-Dry
Save some energy, skip the dryer, and line-dry your clothes in your home on a drying rack. If you have the extra space, this is a great way to get more moisture into the air.

A few things I found out looking into this today is to keep your windows closed at night and soak a sponge in boiling water, take it out and put it in the middle of your room and it should humidify the room for a good 12 hours. You can also spray or steam your curtains and bed sheets with boiled water. Or even boiled lemonade if you want a nice smell. I mean obviously use a thin sprayer and let it dry a little before jumping into bed :D

The FIRST thing you should do is boil water. If you put 4 pots on all your burners you can take a 2,000 sqft home from 10% to 60% in a half hour. Running all your showers is incredibly wasteful as you are paying for at least 2.3 gallons every single minute for absolutely no reason

Yeah the advantage to the shower is that it’s hot quickly and steams quickly, but compare the amount of evaporated water to allllll that still hot water going down the drain. Even if you plug the tub, it collects to cool down, thus evaporating less over time, but the pots will continue evaporating until the water is all gone

Definitely. also depends a lot on the type of plant, as many “indoor” species conserve water (ie. succulents & cacti), a plant that is heavily drinking is also heavily evaporating.

Placing a huge sponge in a flat dish or pan of water helps the water evaporate faster. Some people use a round evaporative filter made for humidifiers. Placing a small fan so that it blows over the sponge or filter helps too.

Absolutely do not disconnect the dryer vent if you have a gas dryer. I highly recommend a carbon monoxide tester in every house. Some areas you can call your fire department to come out and check your smoke alarms and co2 detectors for free.
@WadeKingston
@WadeKingston 4 жыл бұрын
These are all good and relatively safe ideas. I like the idea of bowls of water on the registers, though my cats would probably just drink it. I used to live in a house with radiators and I had those antique humidifiers that hung over the sides of the radiators. They worked really well. One thing I do is leave dishwater in the sink after washing the dishes. It will evaporate during the day. I also, instead of running hot shower water, will sometimes just run an inch or two of water in the tub and open the shower curtain. It also will evaporate. I have gotten away from using humidifiers because it's one more thing that uses energy and has to constantly be refilled, plus you have to clean them often or risk putting mold into the air. But just placing containers of water throughout your home will actually help a lot. Nature will take care of it through evaporation.

I notice that one of my bathrooms that had just one toilet in it does not smell smoke during fire season. This room is the only one in the house that does not get smoke that bad. I guess it is because the toilet is full of water and somehow evaporates. Your comment makes sense . Thanks

I wake up really dry as well and there are some small humidifiers online for fairly cheap and if you want to add some essential oils that's a little more money but $10 is actually a price that you can find I think I even saw desk one for $6 if you get a small one just put it next to you on a night stand or something and you shouldn't wake up so dry.

You need to look deeper into the dryer vent idea. There are waaaaay more nasties in your air ducts than your dryer. It's heat that is being wasted and could be reused if done properly. I'm a professional HVAC installer with Lee company in TN and I see air duct every day. Your dry is way cleaner than your HVAC unit and duct work. Unless it's brand new

I'm actually using that dryer trick and it works well. It pass through water so no dust comes out of it and that trick gives you heat AND humidity. That helps a lot and it's free heat in the winter. I have a big cauldron on a wood stove and it evaporate about 10L of water per day and it's still too dry. I have about 100 pepper plants from January to June and IT'S STILL TO DRY ! I'm really thinking about a way to spray water in the heating system so that could also help.

They sell replacement floor registers/vents that have a bowl/spot for water that help a lot!! Sorry it's almost 5am and I probably am not the best at explaining. If you have forced air heating, they replace your normal floor heat vents and you fill the reservoir daily with water and or essential oils and it releases humidity everytime your heat cycles on. They're really neat!

I Agree, it is silly idea, very bad, to those who say water get recycled ok but the energy to re cycle it is huge to.. it is very expensive, I know that for a fact, the best thing, wet a towel, or 2 and it last for 8 hours approx depending on the starting humidity level, here in summer it is 5% very very dry, yet it work incredible, a room of 30 meter , after a long research, need 80 ml, meaing 80gram, of water vapor PER HOUR.. to maintain a 30 square meter, if the level of humidity is 5% , if it is 15% it need less approx 50 gram of water per hour.. you can adjust the level of evaporation by folding the big shower towel in half, in a third etc.. depending on the season.. it will dry in 12 hours if hum. about 20% ..8 hours if hum. about 5 to 10% , all this at 28 to 32 C room temperature, if it is lower, then a bit lower surface exposed of the towel.. etc.. This is very nice safe, economic, and I clean the tower every week so as not to concentrate mineral on the towels and become rough... work like charm, I do not use humidifier because many many reviews says that it wont work long time, and need constant cleaning to avoid harmful bacteria... hope that helps and safe water.. Salam PS, these figures are almost exact with door is shut and window shut, with 10% of lost air due to dooor opening or little opening of room window for air...
@sutil5078
@sutil5078 4 жыл бұрын
Healthy range is 40 to 50%, hum. level, hospitals are at 50% to minimize virus infaction, becateria etc.. A sign that you or over 50 hum is you feel the air is heavy like near a beach.. then lower the exposed towel surface by one fold etc.. play with and you will fiugre it out.. and by the way near bed make it cooler and require less AC.. and very very great for dry nose.. you will be hooked to it and miss it if one day you forget to wet the towls you will see the difference. Salam

Thanks for the advice, but in my case I do not have space for a humidifier, i live in San Francisco, space is limited. I already have air purifiers and space heaters. Buying a humidifier will take space in my room. I think I prefer to spray the curtains or other ideas.

Nice pic of a drying rack there, and I think the word you were looking for with the dryer vent comment is dust. It simply contains microfibers from your clothing that is already in the air and makes up about 30% of the dust already in the air. How in the hell do you have 92k subs with this garbage content and misinformation?
