I'm new to ebikes. I don't like peddling a regular bike because I can't ever stop. Your videos are always a great source of information. I've built my own ebike out of a kit, but that didn't last long. Now I'm waiting for my Totguard 26", 500W, full suspension ebike. I chose that bike because it has a very heavy frame and I plan on upgrading it. I reference your videos a lot to prepare for the project.

HI just watched your video on installing a watts meter on a ebike battery. great video but wondering with this setup will the meter show the volts in the battery to indicate the power level/fullness of the battery. The power bars on bike monitor don't really show to any great detail if the battery is full or empty. Just wanting a more detailed answer and hoping your method would show me. Thanks in advance Jim

That CA looks very good, but can it drive a retro-looking round speedometer and round 'fuel' meter (0-100%)? They will be easier to read and look better on my electric cyclekart I am building. I plan to use 48V batteries with 3000W motor so will draw 65.5 A.

Very good. So I bought one of those Yeeco digital amp/volt meter. It has a shunt as well. I now think it can NOT be used on an Ebike because the controller messes up the hook up connection. Am I correct ?

hello micah, browsing on aliexpress i found this device... , the idea was to just run a few small gage wires to the display in the front of the bike instead of the power wires , it works great and even has over voltage,amp,watt and other things protection through a relay, there are similar devices that even work wireless... , i still can't get a total ah wh because it keeps reseting ( the manual translation from chinese is terrible), but i hope that there is a way to prevent that...., the protections turns the relay on and i think that to put it back off it has to b done manually .... anyway maybe there is one of these things that work well and its only 16 euros....

I enjoy watching your videos (diy e-bike projects). I have a project bike, I started a month ago. I have a 1000w brushless motor in the rear, and got another one for the frt. drive. Question: can a 1000w brushless motor be turned into a generator? If so, how do you wire in. Thank You for your time you spend on my question.

I assume a wattmeter would be an easy way to determine total battery capacity when using an inexpensive BMS with a discharge setting? Also has anyone had issues with the typical wattmeters (rated 0-60V) on a 14S system (58.8V)?

@mick2d25 жыл бұрын
A lot of them (I have used the BBS02 with the C961 and the BBSHD with the C965) are not very accurate. The methods he mentions give you accurate detailed information on Watts, Amps, Wh etc. I used the first method he mentions with the BBS02 and then changed up to the Cycle Analyst with the BBSHD. Were it compatible with the Bafang (it isn't unfortunately) it could replace the C965. As it stands it gives you accurate real time and average info on every aspect of power usage and also gives you a very accurate "fuel gauge".

Q: I have a DYU D3 (250W motor. 36v 10.4 li-ion). Can I upgrade to a 48v 17.4 li-ion battery pack? How does a more powerful battery surge translate in terms of pace/speed? It will give slot more distance, that's for sure! But worried about the motor and how it would affect it. Bike set at 15mph on 250w.

Hello. Love Your Videos. Very informative and Nicely put togather My Question is. Why You Build Your 18650 Packs in the way You do instead of Building a Testla Style Pack that Has individual Fuse's for Each Cell. I'am getting ready to build a 12 Volt Pack out of Used. Reclaimed Laptop Batterys and I decided to go with the Testla Style Pack so I can have those Safety Fuses for each Cell incase something Stupid does happen with those Used 18650 Cells. Just wanted to get Your Thoughts on that Idea. Thanks so Much for Sharing all the great Battery Info. Dan..
@hardergamer7 жыл бұрын
Why don't them laptops use them?
@adrianthorp43417 жыл бұрын
what will happen when a fuse does go? the remaining cells in that parallel group will have to take up the demand so while the cells were quite happy draining at 1C, if you had 4 cells in each group you will have 1.3C making the rest of the group work much harder. Tesla have a LOT of redundancy built in, they only charge to 80%. that being said if you build the additional capacity into the battery then its a great way to do it as the parallel groups don't see a lot of amperage, that's why the fuses come of a large series connection. But comparing custom built cells at Tesla's design to random used unknown capacity laptop cells is not exactly the same thing, if your determined to go that route make sure removing and replacing dead or exhausted cells are easy.

Since my DIY build is a 36v system, for basic info can't I just use a VoltMeter Display (all over Ebay) on the battery supply, and know that I'm fully charged around 42v, and off the bike before 30v??? I found a waterproof one with a touch power button: www.ebay.com/itm/DC-5V-48V-Waterproof-Touch-LED-Panel-Digital-Volt-Meter-Display-Car-Motorbike/123935695413?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=424719743811&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I know it won't give me distance, but after getting to know how my voltage drains over several rides, I should be able to estimate things and apply a margin of safety, right? Also, since this isn't a flow through system I don't need the heavy wiring, and can just lengthen the wires to mount this on the handlebars....

You are mistaking "capacity" for "power" all the time. This Video will not help anyone except for people who sell overpriced powermeters. The best way to tell how much capacity is left is to measure the voltage of your batterypack. Powermeters can only show volts x amps (with shunt) = watts
