How To Add Predecessors In Smartsheet [& When, Why You Should]

I am trying to use Predecessors in a project plan and when adding them its changing the dates of the child and parent rows. How can I use these without the dates changing in my project plan but still show what tasks need to be done first in a large list of project efforts? Your videos are always so helpful but I am stuck.... Thanks!
