How to Add Text in PaintShop Pro

I really miss the old feature of PSP that gave you a pop up inset box to manipulate your text before you set it on the image.

When the Text Tool is active, try holding down the Shift key while clicking for creating a new text (or within an existing text). It should bring up that pop up dialog.

I have been using the PSP2020 trial, and have had issues trying to add and manipulate text. 1.) I select the T for text and click on the image. I go to adjust the vector layer and it vanishes from the layers list. 2.) I select T for text and click on the image. I start typing. No text shows up even though that layer is on top. I click on the layer in the layers tab, and it appears. 3.) I try to select all of the text to then change the colour (if I forget to change the colour before typing), and it just doesn't want to do it, or it changes the colour of a few letters and not the whole thing). 4.) If I try to click on different areas of the text to add or remove words or fix typos, it doesn't want to let me do it, even with the pick tool. Or if it does let me actually type, again the text will not appear unless I click on the layer in the layers tab and it's suddenly even more messed up as I wasn't able to see what I was typing. 5.) Selecting properties on the actual text layer keeps showing the background layers over the top unless I go out of the properties and hide the background layers. 6.) Right clicking with the pick tool active on the text does nothing. This is incredibly frustrating. I am wanting to move away from Adobe because a.) the subscriptions, and b.) trying the trials, my billing information vanishing into the ether so I had no way of cancelling, and having to involve the bank by raising a dispute against them, and yet some of Corel's tools seem to be so unnecessarily fiddly. In an old version of Photoshop, I could just click on the text, a box would appear and I could highlight it, change the size of letters individually, change the colour easily, see what I was typing without having to click the layer to actually see the text, right click on the text and be able to bring up the properties. With Corel PSP2020, it's proving to be quite a pain. If you know what's going on here (because it seems like there are technical issues), please help.

Yes! That is what's happening for me as well! I'm having issues with Photoshop so I thought I'd give PainShop a try for making book covers. So annoying. Guess I'll be sticking with RealDraw Pro 5 for a while longer.

So I finally figured out how to add some text but it is partially transparent. It is a newer version so this isn't exactly how it works. I am spending 30 minutes trying to add some read letters to a picture. The online help text instructions is worthless. I am really beginning to hate this product.

Exactly. Basic operations should be seamless. It's convoluted and I'm about to toss this rubbish.

Text manipulation is really bad - it's the worst part of an otherwise pretty good product. How do you create a text box? What effect does any of the text alignment options do? They seem to have no effect or random effects. The text selection is not properly visible. The text does not update in real-time so it's almost impossible to create blocks of text e.g. for a flyer.

It would be helpful if the cursor movement was so a user could clearly see the selected command and eliminate any unnecessary cursor movement.

I dont have the font color selection boxes shown here. I use Paintpro X8. I looked everywhere and its not there. Can anyone direct me how I would get them to show?

When trying to add text as a selection, my pick tool moved the background image instead of the floating text. I don't know how to fix it so the text moves instead of the base image layer.

The video is a little confusing on that part. In my experience, when creating new text as selection and apply it, it does NOT create a new raster layer. It just creates a regular marching-ants selection on whatever layer we happened to be on. At that point, we can right-click on that layer, and choose: Promote Selection to Layer from the menu that pops up (that command is also available under the Selections menu, at the top of the screen). This will now create a new layer, which we can move around with the Pick tool.

This video appears to be for an older product. I'm trying to find Presets for text and it is not on the text menu at all now. If you click on View and select Toolbars and Effects, a toolbar with Presets appears. But, with the text selected and the text tool active, if I click on Presets, it doesn't show available text presets at all. I have a feeling text presets have been totally eliminated from the latest version of PaintShop Pro, but they didn't bother to update the video. I will muddle along and try to figure out how to get the effect I want without it...and once I do, there is apparently no way to save it. Sigh! I do expect a learning curve, but having adequate tutorials and documentation is pretty important to avoid customer frustration.

How about adding your name plus "Photography" in the bottom RH corner of hundreds of JPEGS? Is there a way of saving the text so it can be repeated over and over again say for uploading to the internet?

You can use the Watermarking function, with Batch processing. Here is a video about that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHfRqYSLgMiEqJo But instead of saving a logo as a png image watermark (as the video suggests), you can save your text.

On the 2020 version, double-click does not do as claimed in the video. Once I apply my black text with a black fill and press "Apply" an outline of the text appears and then if I move off it, the text disappears. No explanation in the useless on-line help. No explanation in the above video tutorial as WTF is going on. I reset all the preferences. Same problem. This is a joke. This is such a BASIC operation and it's completely unusable.

Right, so this has something to do with "Create as" being set to Selection. How this is in anyway usable feature is left as mystery. And resetting your workspace preferences doesn't reset selections like this. So if you set things from default and can't figure out what is going on, you're basically screwed.
