Thank you so much for your clear and concise tutorial. I'm producing a modern rock opera and your simple, inexpensive setups for controlling lights and video via MIDI are so helpful as I design the showcase performances. Thanks again and keep up the great work. Cheers.

Thanks for giving an old DJ some perspective on this. Bought an LED projector ages ago with the intention of using it in some shows but between covid and other projects put it to one side. This is an old link and story but still very relevant today. One of the great things is that I already have most of the gear needed to use this setup including a gen 4 Apple TV I never use so it would be good to put it to real work at last!! I will definitely be watching your later video editions... thanks so much for giving this perspective. Regards, Greg. Deep Space Productions...... PS I guess you can imagine what type of videos I mostly intend to play LOL! 😆

I'm happy to hear that this video helped inspire some new uses for old gear! I still think that video projectors are an underutilized tool for creating interesting light shows. Deep Space Productions? Hmm reminds me of the oil projection psychedelic light shows Hawkwind used to do!

great video. I didn't know an apple TV could be so useful. Beatstep as a video sequencer is such an awesome idea. I can see it being used by a solo performer or band that doesn't have a VJ to run visuals. You could prepare various sequences (for each song in a live set for instance), tap the BPM so the transitions are roughly timed to the music.
@LearnLizard8 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Davis Hi- Thanks for the kind words. You can also send MIDI from a sequencer and sync the video precisely to your show. For tips on syncing DMX lights with a sequencer check out my tutorial “How to control DMX lights with Audio and MIDI”

Great comment! What is "Beatstep"? I have a DJ drum performance where I am working to create a video where the footage plays in a symbiotic relationship to the BPM of the music or even my live drum beat. Any advice is a huge help thank you!

Hi Steve- thank you! How did you program the MIDI exactly?
@LearnLizard3 жыл бұрын
Hi- TouchViz is made to receive MIDI cc data for different functions. (For example cc:41 controls the master video level) The Beatstep can be configured with the free MIDI Control Center software to program the knobs and buttons to output any MIDI cc: or note data you choose. So it's basically a matter of matching the Beatstep's hardware controls to the functions you want to change/control in TouchViz. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Thanks for your videos. You really did start at the beginning and make it easy. I was wondering if you could advise me. I have a monthly dance club and I am now going to provide my own lighting. I was going to purchase the Eyourlife 8pcs 54X3W LED DJ PAR Light RGBW 162Watt DMX 512 Stage Lighting Disco Projector. Since watching your video and I now know that I have to buy a controller! Don't know if I need to also buy cables or not. Could you make a suggestion for a controller that is affordable and easy enough for me to operate?

Thanks for the great video. Do you know of a vinyl like that with the black backing but with a less shinny/ mat surface on the white side? Also: I am starting a theatre and need to be able to wirelessly send audio in the same manner. Anything that you know of that goes from Apple TV to 2 RCA/Stereo outputs? How about an app that runs in a similar manner as TouchViz that would throw the signal from an Ipad to an Apple TV device? Thanks again.

@LearnLizard2 жыл бұрын
AirPlay connects IOS devices to an Apple TV when both are connected to the same WIFI network. I don't believe you can use a LAN connection. If you want a wired solution you can get a lightning to HDMI adapter (about $40) and it works great. Appreciate you watching.

I am attempting to add and synchronize a lasercube show on top of video projection and be able to reshow the lasercube and video projection for repeat shows. I am not sure how to synchronize the laser cube show to the video. Could this method be applied to synchronizing a laser lasercube show to a video? Sorry for perhaps a stupid question; I am not very experienced or tech savvy.
@LearnLizard3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question and the subject of a future video I have in the works! If you are using LaserOS for a mac or PC you can program "hot keys" that you can trigger with MIDI from a hardware controller or DAW. Here's a video showing how: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5yTk4h_nqiEp80 You can simultaneously trigger video cues (shown in this video) from the same timeline and also DMX fixtures as shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip20gXqNYsx7fac Good luck and thanks for watching!

@LearnLizard3 жыл бұрын
It only works on an iPad (unfortunately) It takes a lot of screen real estate to display all the functions and the developers probably felt it was too much to squeeze into a smaller screen. Appreciate you watching this one!

Sure- you could use a Google Chromecast dongle connected to your projector and use any one of a number of VJ apps such as "Pocket VJ" or "Quantum VJ HD". I still think TouchViz for the iPad is one of the best options!
