I just watched this video yesterday, and did it to 2 clients today. Amazing results and it was a lot quicker service that all that sectioning through the hair. I dont have those texturizing shears but even without them the diamond shape section really helped me to get a shorter layers without any funkiness and loads of volume in the crown without all the fuss!! Great video!!! Thank you!!

Patty Asmus, Yikes! Only thing I could think to do is go in together with 4 other stylists, and rotate them around for a couple months which would give each one a chance to try them out in real world scenarios. Then you could make the INVESTMENT buying your own if you thought you couldn't live without them, and write it off as your tools of the trade. Also, each of the sharing stylists would have to pay a small amount to insure against loss, and WEAR THEM AROUND YOUR NECK WHEN NOT ACTUALLY IN USE!

I know i am not Mia or Twiggy but...! Sam is a hair cut genius and he loves what he s doing thats probably his secret. And I always thought hair cutting talent is also talent for geometrics
@caroljohanson2807
@caroljohanson2807 4 жыл бұрын
We cut hair by degrees of elevation generally meaning 0° is where hair naturally falls it can be elevated at 30° 45° 90° or 180° meaning directly up from the scalp we do use geometrics angles and balance in haircutting however the finished product is a combination of enhancing the clients appearance and achievingThe clients desired results

I've cut hair since i was13 years old family and friends.. dropped out of barber college so no shop still and here i am 46 and my passion for cutting styling hair will never leave me. my aunt and first cousin are hair stylist and they are very talented. this guy knows his stuff for sure! The instructor i had went to barber college with my aunt and they opened a shop together way back when it was called The Roffler Shop. Very busy salon i remember her working from 8am until 9-10 pm lost of night and my cousin and I would play in the back booth area I LOVED IT !!! I do cut my own hair most the time its free lol The one thing I remember the most was learning to use a razor . OMG scared to death and he called me out first calling me little bonnie which was my aunts name.. I took the razor and comb and was amazed I had a gift that came very natural to me.. The instructor said to the class one day You should cut the hair to fall in place as it should according to the cut! NO client wants to stand in the mirror for hours trying to style it the way they wanted it cut... If its cut right it will be very little styling time in order for it to look the cut

Thank you so much Sam. I trained as a hairdresser way back in the seventies but didn't work as one as I got an offer of another totally unrelated job I couldn't refuse! I've since cut my families hair - but never my own. During lockdown I decided to give my long, layered hair a trim, but not having octopus arms or eyes in the back of my head I had to take the ends forward, and over extending didn't do anything for my back layers. Ended up flat as a pancake in back. I watched this and this morning just used the diamond to give myself a PERFECT layer. Volume volume volume!! I couldn't do the zig zag but it worked almost perfectly point cutting the ends for softness. Thank you. What a master teacher!

Wow, Sam....you are a great teacher. Even though I could never in a million years do this, it is fascinating to watch! You should teach ALL stylists your tricks. I have had so many bad cuts, bad perms, etc. And there’s no way to know beforehand if they’re good or not. So now I have resorted to wigs - so much easier. Thank you for this video.

I cut my own hair since 2011 because any hairdresser haven't known how to do their job right and I was so tired of paying for something that I didn't like. Now, after ruining my hair so many times ( at least for free this time 🤣) I love when people tell me how great my hair looks . For this reason I'm really interested to become a hairdresser A GOOD ONE.😉

@VeroViOficial 3 жыл бұрын
@@steve998 Hi, You will need a 2nd mirror, try to find a big one, for me was really difficult because I used a 4 inch diameter one, try to place it in the best angle possible so you can see the back of your head comfortably. I won't recommend you to do it if your hair has many layer already, is better if you let you hair grow more so you can start all over to make it look nicer, also keep in mind that if your tips are really damage it won't look its best.

There are very few of us who know how to do this....I learned it a long long time ago when working for Toni & Guy and it has been invaluable to me, and has never failed me....you are right though....many stylists think that just because they are doing long layers it wont look layered, and that is not neccessarily so.......theres a few other procedeures combined with what Sam is doing above, that truly make the hair give the appearance of one length...all inter related....

@Big eyes small mouth DITTOW,, I COULD DO THE SAME !! Oh it just drives me nuts!! I remember one time I had shoulder length straight blunt-cut and all I wanted was a little Lyft or volume at the crown of my head because my hair just lay flat on the top of my head. So I went to one of these stylist that you have to pay $50 for a haircut and a lot of people referred me to this and went on and on about how great he was. I'm not kidding you when I say I left there with my hair looking like Joan Jet but without the bangs and he promised me there would be no layers in my hair I would still have the appearance of having even length hair my hair looked so layered and choppy I WAS PISSED OFF !!!

I Wish I had her hair. You're are a perfectionist. Great video, you really know what you're doing. I only had one good hair cut in my life. I was always pretty good at styling my own hair. I'm 78 now, when I was young and there was a special occasion I went to a beauty shop and always brought a scarf to the beauty shop in case I didn't like the style, and I never did. I have fine hair and now it got thin and it seems most stylists don't care or just don't know how to cut and style thinning hair. You're a genius.

may i just throw this out without knowing all the intricacies of your profession. is standing for u a problem? when getting my own hair done often there is a stool which rolls easily for the cut used by the hairdresser. Could that be usedore often by u and be easier? is it possible for u to just have a few people to care for so u can set up an easy schedule like maybe a few hours every other day mon wed fri??? not being able to do what u enjoy seems unfair to u. and not having an experienced caring person is scary to most clients. personally if i knew u to be a hair artist i would be happy to accomodate your needs in return for something beautiful.

I am familiar with pivot point but never really learn the details in school which reminds me of your technique. Decided to try it and I have to tell you it works fantastic! But you knew that! I have very thin, fine hair where my scalp is visible in front and flat in the back. But now I actually have volume in the back! This gives me a lot more options for different hairstyles. I admit cutting my hair short on top of my head was scary but what do I have to loseI I did it and you can't tell other than I have fantastic volume! I LOVE, LOVE this technique!! I cannot tell you how good this system appears. I can see exactly what he is saying! I have actually held my hair on top because the hairdresser want to take it all off. They have actually said "let your hair go" and my answer has always been "NO." If one more suggestion is warranted, I would say, ask the client if they prefer to leave the hair longer or shorter. When they say longer, DO EXACTLY THAT! If they say shorter, don't make them look like they have a mini head. Hairdressers just are not interested in what YOU want, they were taught one way and that is, in their opinion, good enough. I am 74 years young and had at least 100+ different stylist. Only TWO were worth returning to for a good cut.

Bravo! I won't go to a hair salon because the layers are terrible and not graduated. They are cut hair at a 90 degree angle so it looks awful and then they keep going over it again and again. Your analysis and cutting are superb.

Formerly a hairdresser back in the day. Really enjoyed this vid. This man is much more knowledgeable talented and has an expertise light-years from most hairdressers. That's why you won't find people being able to cut your hair like this could he makes it look very easy but trust me only a very competent capable hairdresser with a gift could replicate this haircut. If you notice it is nothing like a layered cut. This is how you would get Height in the crown with long hair. Also note he's talking about the size of the diamond. His model has very nice amount on the thicker side of medium textured hair. If you were working with someone with my type of hair which is fine and naturally curly you would use a much smaller diamond. Trust me ladies I can't find anybody that could cut hair like this gentleman and if so I'm sure I'd be paying well over $200 for a haircut.

This is exactly how I want my crown to be dealt with (cos I NEED volume up there). Surely I hate the straight, blunt cut, and always request they point/spike cut, but still. However, after seeing this fabulous demo, there's H O P E for lil ole me, lol. I'll be sure to show this video to my girl in the hopes her cutting style will change, Thank you, Sam Villa!

WOW. I definitely could tell where the hair is cut because I am a blonde and recognize things like that on similar colored hair, although mine is natural. But it looked like she had 2x the hair she started with. I have a really good pair of hair sizzors. I often have to do my own hair styling. I have a scalp issue and no one will touch me. I am not good at working on something I can not see. But I do think I could do a diamond zizzag and layer. Thank you so very much for a wonderful demonstration.

You are a genius. I pray I find a hairdresser who watches your videos and learns. I am yet to find one who truly knows what they are doing. Especially the part where you mentioned how one can have a weaker side. With lower density of hair on one side. I have that problem, but no hairdresser to address it.
