Great video, thank you Paul. From watching this video, I was able to adjust my fire door speed to be a gentle close and not slam against the frame each time.

Recently moved and the garage door really slammed shut. I had no instructions so good ole' google and watched this brilliant video. So Thanks Paul, I now have a slower closing and quiet door.

My eldest daughter went off to university 1st year last week! And the kitchen area is right next to her room. The door slams so loud that she gets woken up all hours! She decided to stay in and have early night on Thursday while the other 6 flatmates went out, they trickled in between 4-5am where each of them went back and forth the kitchen. Not 1 of them had a screw driver 🤣 so amazon screwdriver set I'd being ordered and posted to her right this second and this video will get her some great sleep

Hi Lisa - sorry for the delay as I had a bit of an issue logging in! If your daughter has any problems with the adjustment or it is a different one to the one in the video, please feel free to call us for assistance. We have helped others using Facetime in the past. And thank you for your comments - much appreciated.

How do i get the power / strength to click shut? I understand the speed adjustment part/ I'm in a block of flats, i'm on ground floor & the main door when folk go out, the door doesn't click shut (its supposed to be a secure entry with intercom etc.) the door closes over but cant deal with the resistance to actually click shut. it used to click shut so it needs adjusted but as i watched video i didnt see example of this adjustment.
@PaulHarperSmith9 ай бұрын
Hi. in the video, there are 2 adjustments - one for speed from fully open from around 90* to 15* and the other adjustment is the latching adjustment - from 15* to close. In the video, on our closer the latch adjustment is in the middle of the of the speed adjustment. You may find that the resistance can be cured by spraying some WD-40 or similar onto the latch to reduce the friction.. Good luck, Paul.

Hey wonder if you can help. I have a door closer that says on the side "Super Lynx by Yannedis" and I cannot work out how to get inside it. There is one screw on the underside but that looks more like an adjustment screw than a case screw and there are no other screws I can find to get the cover off. This one does seem to have broken down and we could do with getting it off the door.
@PaulHarperSmith6 жыл бұрын
Hi, it may be one that the cover is clipped on and just pulls off? Can you send a photo? Thanks. Paul
@rainbowlollypop96976 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, Thanks for your reply. Here are some photos of it. uploadpie.com/4z5i9p uploadpie.com/JQO5lw uploadpie.com/X2zlsD. There doesn't seem to be a gap big enough to even fit a screwdriver in to ease it open.

What maintenance is possible - can we lubricate the mechanism?
@paulharper-smith45664 жыл бұрын
Hi Manuel, these are sealed units so the only maintenance is to ensure all fixings are secure and only the pivot points can be lubricated. If there is a latch on the door, this can be lubricated too. Regards, Paul

if someone slams the door shut, will it still slam with a closer installed?
@PaulHarperSmith Жыл бұрын
If a closer is fitted, the door is controlled, closes on its own and if someone tries to slam it, it puts a brake on to prevent it.
@patb8985 Жыл бұрын
Sorry to trouble you, but what is the difference between "latch" action and "no latch" action?
@PaulHarperSmith Жыл бұрын
Hi Pat. The difference is that if you have a latch on the door, you need to select the latch action setting, but if there is no latch such as a corridor door, then select no latch action. Hope this helps. Regards, Paul.
@PaulHarperSmith Жыл бұрын
You will need to select latch action, if you have a latch on the door, as that gives more strength to overcome the resistance of the latch spring, so the door closes.
@patb8985 Жыл бұрын
@@PaulHarperSmith Oh! I get it! When I have been to certain buildings there are doors which swing beyond the middle then swing back to centre. Thank you very much.
@PaulHarperSmith Жыл бұрын
@@patb8985 if there are no latches, there is no resistance to overcome so the no latch position finally closes the door more gently and quietly.

Can all door closers on fire doors be slowed down?

How do you UNLOCK an auto door that’s locked open? Some bellend keeps leaving the fire exit door open!
@lockassist71283 күн бұрын
It sounds like the closer you have is what is called a ‘hold open’ which says open at 90* degrees until you push it back? The alternative is a ‘non-hold open’ which can never stay open unless you use a door wedge.
@P53eud0nym052 күн бұрын
@@lockassist7128 Unfortunatelyv pushing it back doesn’t unlock it. Need to report to building management & god knows what they do to it 😂

@PaulHarperSmith5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tariq. Most door closers have a preset tension (size 3) to ensure they meet fire regulations however there are some that are adjustable from 2 - 4. There are also easi open ones used on nursing homes. Thanks for the question.

This is the first negative comment so thank you for that. The video was made to simply explain to anyone how to do it themselves but if you're experienced and don't need to know the reasons behind what the adjustments do, then maybe the wrong video for you. Apologies.
