How to adjust carburetor on 1993 Honda XR80R

I'm trying to fix my Honda xr80 1985 because I had a friend work on it and he messed it up so how can I fix it

i have a 1997 xr80r and i noticed while riding it started going top speed (i had never had this bike go so fast) and i was like damn ok maybe the jets were plugged a bit and it sorted itself out, not the case when i got home the top cap had screwed itself off while riding, i got her back on there real tight but now the bike is back to how it was riding before, what im saying is while the cap was popped off it was running better than ever because it was sucking so much air, obviously the cap being off isnt good 😂 but it just made me curious does that mean my carb isnt getting enough air and thats why my bike isnt riding at full potential?

That would be my guess. Try adjusting the air fuel screw to let more air in and see how it runs. Also check your air filter.

Sounds like it’s not getting enough fuel could be a clogged jet. There is two, an idle jet an one for when it’s not idling.

My bike dies when it’s in idle, I did a full tune up & it’s still doing it, should I adjust the idle or air?

Ok I would turn the air fuel mixture in until it stops do it gently so it doesn’t damage the needle then turn it out 1 and 1/2 turns. Make sure your cam chain is snug with the tensioner if not tighten it until it barely touches. Then just adjust your idle in or out until it works best. In = higher idle, out = lower idle. Mine is still not perfect but it is a worlds difference. Those carbs are notorious for being finicky and hard to deal with. Before I filmed this my carb was super dirty and disgusting. I brought it in to get cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner and the guy was shocked and said “it ran???” If yours is dirty I would recommend doing that. Before I got it cleaned it was down on power and bogging. I should make an updated video. Hopefully this helps.
