How to adjust feed dog timing on sewing machine Singer 9420

Looks like being a little bit off time. In the end it will be clear while back stitching. If it breaks needles then readjustment is needed again.

🤔 do you mean mine is off time? The feed dogs shouldn’t break needles, they pull the fabric not turn the shuttle hook. If the shuttle is off time you will defiantly get broken needles but I’ve not had them break because of the feed dogs.

@@MichellesFabricFantasies I am tinkering with old machines, this one is the modern times product. :) But I am used to the adjustment when the needle is about to reach the top of the hole +/- some fabric thickness allowance - feed dogs must (hide) be lower than the top edge of the needle plate.

@@MichellesFabricFantasies And the feed dogs frame is shifted to the right side in the plate. ) Another adjustment needed 🙂

@ran2wild370 oh thank you, I’ll look closer at that. This machine was broken when I got it and I had to figure out on my own how to fix it since there were no videos I could find of this model. So, I put these out to help people who are in my situation. I had to fix things through trial and error.

⁠​⁠@@ran2wild370 I was tinkering with vintage machines. With my 9420 timing the feed dogs worked best when the needle released the fabric the feed dogs were flushed with the needle plate.

When you are turning the gear underneath to get the feed dogs to its higher point, the gear you are turning is the white plastic one? Not the one that you unscrewed the two screws?
