The Corsa D is exactly the same: Some notes: If the drum is stuck - loosen the handbrake nut fully from under the handbrake lever inside the car then use a M10 bolt in the blind holes in the drum to force the drum off. The brake shoes auto adjust however the adjusters sometimes seize. Take out the adjuster and lubricate it to ensure it is free to move, then refit the adjusters. Then, whilst the handbrake cable is still in its loose state and both drums are on the vehicle - press the brake pedal repeatedly - this should nudge the adjuster as far as it needs to go to get the shoes as close to the drum as possible. Repeat with the handbrake for certainty. Tighten the handbrake cable nut inside the car so that the drums are loose on 0 clicks but starting to tighten on 1+ clicks and are evenly balanced.

Brilliant, thank you. Found this for my Toyota Yaris (XP9) 1.4 D-4D (of which there are no suitable KZbin videos). Practically identical brake adjuster, and assembly appearance.

If the drum doesn't immediately come off, after a swift tap, it's worth realising that the 2 small holes that are blind, and leave those 2 rusty circles you can see, are threaded. I can't remember if it's a 10 or 12 mm bolt, but just get a couple of bolts and use them to break it free.

Surely these are automatic adjusters. Why do you adjust them by hand? As soon as the pedal has been applied a few times they will take up the slack themselves evenly on both sides. Am I missing something? Great video though! Thanks.

Hello mate, You’re right they are self adjusting however I do like to give them a few clicks just to make sure the adjuster still moves and not seized. Also I find giving the adjuster a few clicks manually you get a better handbrake too! All personal opinion, thanks for watching mate.

I've owned a few Vauxhalls, and was advised to reverse and then brake hard to force the adjuster to set itself, which seemed to work. It's a good idea to remove the drums though, to check the shoes and cylinders visually. The drum brakes on my wife's Corsa have always been a bit noisy, especially first thing in the morning. Time to take them apart, I think.

My handbrake on my 15' Corsa is very weak. On the first inpection in 2019 it was weak as in 202.I barely passed IT . Can i adjust IT? I tried to adjust it on e Brake(in cocpit) but no diference. I dont want to mess with drums if not gonna help :/

do you turn this screw counterclockwise towards you? to make it tighter for the brake shoes

how do you know in which direction you should rotate to "open" the pads (doing the clicks) ? Thank You

I find trial and error works well but if you're looking at the adjuster from the front of the car you'd turn the adjuster anticlockwise, push the clicker from the bottom towards the car to push the shoes outwards. Think of it as if you are winding a nut off a bolt.

Does the adjuster click down for making the drums tighter or slacker ? thanks

Well done, Joe! Very well explained - and filmed, given that you were (obvs) on your tod. I was looking for this adjustment for a Fiat Punto, and this Focus rear brake arrangement is a dead ringer for that of the Grande Punto. Mick, West Yorks. PS Sanding brake shoes? Please don't. It's both unnecessary (their surfaces will be re-compressed/ re-glazed within seconds of normal use) and a serious health hazard to you.

I put the wheel bolts in the drum without the wheel on and pinch them up before tightening the small screws not much more than finger tight `else you`ll never get them out next time, they`re only there to stop the drum being dragged off when removing the wheel.

Thanks for your Corsa E videos, really easy to understand. Any chance you will do a full replacement on the rear drum breaks?

It's on the Fiat forum (UK), Grande, Guides. Full detailed guide. A lot on self-adjusters, bimetal strip operation (important). Fix the link (missing dots). www fiatforum com/threads/rear-drum-strip-and-clean.235078/post-4532867
