Thanks for this episode Mr. Bailey. My next equipment purchase will be a bandsaw and this video gave me a much better understanding of how one operates. Regards. Bob

good stuff as always Don. We do the same thing except the bearings are spaced one business card away so when you run the blade under no load on the blade the bearings do not spin this allows for the blade tension to be adjusted without any pressure being applied from the bearings as the blade finds neutral tilt under the new tension

Don; Thanks for taking this topic up. I have a Kalamazoo 9AW. There is no back bearing. Just either side on cam-studs to take up the side play. Back relies on blade tension. I have had to re-machine my wheels at least twice to re-establish a shoulder for the blade. I cannot figure out how many degrees or minutes of pitch I should place on the wheels to keep the blade on. Saw has fully adjustable provisions for that. Plus, my idler bearings are nearly 1/4" off-center in respect to where the blade wants to relax to. So, I am always pushing the blade outside the band-loop. So... do I machine the wheels flat, and pitch them at the alignment cartridge... or cut them at a taper, and make their faces flat? It has been a constant and consistent headache for me. I have to sometimes cut an additional 1/4" or more just to be able to get a cleanup length. Thanks a million!!! Mark

Good video in my case at least my horizontal is much more difficult since it has a twist in the blade so the rollers have to force the blade into alignment to cut straight. I have spent many hours fooling with it and have it to where it usually is within .005 of flat/inch of diameter and that seems to be as good as I can get it.

The bandsaw is absolutely the most neglected machine in any shop or school. Even from an educational standpoint, most trade schools only touch on the bandsaw as far as safety, but rarely ever really dedicate any time to its setup and proper use. I always figured this is why the bandsaw is always screwed up and the band is usually dull as a garden hoe. When used properly a band can actually last a year or more in my experience.

Those bearings are massive. Jealous. Have a rikon 326, it's a POS, have done nothing but correct the crappy factory settings for weeks, as I keep learning how it should be done.
