I've been doing a bunch of work on Thumbtack for over a year now and have thought about getting into a completely different career field. BUT I just broke my leg a week ago and I've been doing a lot of soul searching while on bedrest. I feel like I need to just double down on my handyman business and really just take it by the horns. I feel that I can really carve my own path and make a name for myself and increase my families financial well being.

You got this!!! You'll bounce back stronger than ever. I lost my leg on a harley. 9 months later I got back on the harley and back into the carpenters union. YOU GOT THIS!!!!

I'm a current supervisor for techs and I feel like I'm ready to jump out and do this on my own. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos. If they are your true friends and family they would make sure they paid you in full with no discount. Thats a friend and fam that's got your back and wants to see you succeed.

I'm retired from being a kitchen and laundry repair tech for a (former)major retailer. I take handyman jobs when my back allows. Doing jobs for neighbors and relatives comes with the territory; I put up with it as long as the favor is returned. I repaired a washer for a neighbor and he compensated me for my time. (I instructed him what part was needed and he ordered it .) A few months later, his dryer broke down and after my diagnosis, he ordered the part. I installed the part for him and I even cleaned his dryer vent. That was 3 years ago and I'm still waiting for his compensation......

How do you go about scheduling your jobs/appointments? Do you schedule one per day just in case a small job turns into a bigger job? Or do you schedule multiple jobs per day and hope that you're able to finish all of them quickly enough to make your next appointment on time?
@utubehandyman2 жыл бұрын
Big jobs 1 per day. Smaller jobs 2 to 3 per day. Jobs I haven't done before 1 per day just in case.

How long it took you to be busy enough like at least 1 job per day ? thank you
@utubehandyman2 жыл бұрын
To be honest it wasn't for the lack of customers. What kept me down was the fear of trying out new jobs. If I had the confidence I have now when I started, I would say It would've taken maybe 2-3 months easily.

Have you had any bad experiences with Craig's list . Problems such as receiving payment or shady characters?
@utubehandyman Жыл бұрын
shady characters yes but not thru craigslist. Just a POS property manager sending me to crappy rentals. He paid whatever I charged but I told him to take a hike. I'll make a vid about it. Otherwise customers I found myself, so far so good. The minimum charge and doing rough quotes over the phone seems to keep the bad ones away.

Yes, watch the full video. I covered partially how to price simple jobs. You can also price jobs thru homewise.com just to get an idea how much to charge.

Bigger city... more competition!
@utubehandyman2 жыл бұрын
I haven't had an issue with competition. My only competition are those other handyman who get sick the day they're supposed to show up for an appointment. Or the ones who screw something up and won't pickup the phone when the home owner calls them to follow up.

Hello, I really appreciated your advices. I have a concern and I need help with it please. Anytime I post my add on facebook, they kick me out and they say that I’m not allowed to post a service there. They said I can not post an ad without any intention to sell stuff. Can you please direct me how to be able to post my add on facebook please ? Thank you
@utubehandyman7 ай бұрын
someone is flagging your post. Probably, competition. Technically it's against their policy but people do it all the time. Set the ad as fair price and actually put a price on it eventhough it's a service you're offering. If it keeps getting flagged, create a new account or pay for their ad placements.
