I know this is late but just a side note: it's not about how many fans do intake vs exhaust. It's about volume of air. You could theoretically have one fan as intake going full blast and three or more as exhaust at very low RPM and still have positive air pressure.
@joesphhoffmann35053 жыл бұрын
Great overview! It would probably also be helpful to talk a bit about fan configurations on some of the bigger air coolers themselves. Make sure the air is blowing front to back too--push vs pull vs push/pull.

i'm building my first pc, i got the montech king 65 pro that has two fans on the side for intake and one on the rear for exhaust and the phantom spirit 120se air cooler, how many extra fans should i get and how should i set them up? if i had an aio i guess i would put 3 intake on bottom and 3 exhaust on top but i fear this being a fish tank and having an air cooler, the three exhaust on top might take out cold air and push it out before it goes to the cooler. what should i do if that's the case, put three intake bottom and 1 exhaust on top or something else?
@-tr0n3 жыл бұрын
Love it. This is almost exactly how I've set my air flow up through trial and error over the years. (AIO's weren't really an option back in the day). Slightly positive bias is where it's at. I make sure to block exhaust ports ahead of components that I want to get that airstream. I have a 120mm behind and 140mm on top of my NH14 but I've blanked off the fan slots in front of the cooler, dropped a couple degrees instantly with a small piece of plexiglass screwed into the fan mounts. I've also added a 140mm on the side cover (no glass here) that blows directly into the GPU fans.

Another thing to mention Robey, every now and then it would help to blow the dust out of the computer case. This will keep the maximum amount of airflow consistent. I use an electric leaf blower to blow the dust out of my computer and no issues or damage to components.

Love your video. Felt like an engaging, short class on the topic. Well done. I'll be installing fans similarly to what you've prescribed in my Corsair 4000D Airflow case - a 120mm Noctua Rear Exhaust Fan, a top 120mm Noctua Exhaust Fan + 2 Noctua 140mm Exhaust fans for Air Intake. Question though - my GPU is a Gigabyte 3080 10GB with the 3x Wind-Force fans. To what extent does this effect my positive and negative air pressure? Thanks!
@StuartHollingsead2 жыл бұрын
my plan is a bit extreme... You can rig a window air conditioner to cool down to 36 degrees F. or 2 degrees C I want to build an insulated box resting on a table around the rigged air conditioner. The pc will be inside. So will a hepa filter fan that pushes 350 cfm. I will 3d print a shroud from the hepa filter fan to the noctua cooler. That noctua cooler will not need any fans. The case at this point is going to be "openbenchtable" The goal is to try and get in the top ten of air overclocks worldwide. Which is around 5.75 MHz. If it works well, I will progress to my next phase. Bringing in sub zero winter air from outside into my insulated pc box. I saw that the 12900k got up to an impressive 8 GHz using liquid nitrogen, and 5.8 GHz using chilled water. I am thinking I can get up to 5.6 GHz using air conditioner method, and 5.8 GHz using sub zero winter air. But If I can get up to 6.0 GHz, that's a world record. It will really push the noctua cooler to the limits.=-=

I'm having problems deciding how I'm going to air cool my cube case (I'm new to pcs). I bought the Anidees Crystal Cube mesh version, it comes with 4 120 fans in the front(intake), and 1 120 on the back (exhaust). I bought a 240 aio for cooling the cpu. I was planning on adding a fan on the bottom under where the gpu(if I ever get one) will be(intake), and having the 2 fans on the radiator blowing out(exhaust) from the top. Does this set up sound like it would work well? Is it a bad idea to have the fans on the radiator acting as exhaust?

Positive negative and neutral don’t have to do with the number of fans blowing in a particular direction. It has to do with the pressure inside the case compared to absolute pressure on the outside of the case. It can be measured with an manometer which is a simple device most commonly used to determine if your home radon evacuation system is working properly. In its basic form it’s a u shaped tube with a certain density liquid in it. One end hooks to a tube that goes inside the device to be monitored the other is open to air. The reading is the difference in fluid level relative to some linear measurement like inches or mm most likely for this application.

I can't believe people actually buy cases that don't have slots for DVD/Bluray drives. I hear a number of non-techie people complaining that they still want their new laptops to have one built in. Did PC manufacturers try to trick people into thinking they don't need an optical drive so they won't end up ripping discs and infringe on copyright, or do most people actually don't feel the need for them anymore?
