thanks for the info one more question if you don't care, since I an as newbie still, I use createx I tried detail black, transparent black and cannot get good detail. I use an iwata eclipse HP-CS when you day got example 20lbs is that what I set the compressor to and when I spray it goes down to like 10lbs I am still confused about line pressure and spray pressure. the createx even reduced has bad tip dry.
@TriggerHappyCustoms9 жыл бұрын
+MRX2099 I've used Createx for a while now and usually have nothing but problems with it. It's hard for beginners to get the proper reduction and it clogs my airbrush so badly that I have to take the airbrush apart and clean it after every use. I only airbrush with Createx paint when I have to, like when spraying at a high PSI when painting T-Shirts. I do really like hand painting with it though, with a traditional brush. As far as your compressors PSI dropping, I'm guessing you are using a compressor without an air tank. There is a difference between the PSI the compressor is set at and the PSI you actually get at the tip of the brush. Using a higher grade compressor with an air tank to hold and regulate the air before it gets to the brush will help control this problem. The only thing I can think to tell you is to set your compressor at 40lbs and when you use the airbrush you'll get 20lbs of air out of the brush. You'll just need to set the compressor much higher than you need to get the desired air pressure out of the brush. As a simple rule: The thicker the paint in the airbrush, the higher the pressure you need to spray at. The thinner the paint in the airbrush, the lower the pressure you can spray at. This means that if you're compressor is putting out 20lbs of air at the tip your paint needs to be super thin... Really thin, almost like water. I usually only spray that low when I'm doing super fine detailed work. Usually I keep it around 45-55lbs and that works pretty well. At 45-55lbs the paint can be much thicker than at 20lbs and I can still keep the tip dry low and the paint quality high. Does this make sense? Most likely I will do a video on mixing ratios and air pressure soon, that question seems to come up a lot.

Excellent work--I really like how you allowed the wood grain to show through as well as the drip effect below the skull! And one can never go wrong with a beautiful nude woman for the main subject of the piece. I have that same Sakura electric eraser you're using here, it's much smoother than the old Helix electric. I also have some of those same Com-art colors but haven't used them in ages. Mostly I use E'tac as well as some Wicked Detail and Auto Air colors. Thanks for posting this video--keep 'em coming....I've been airbrushing for some 35 years and I still pick up new techniques and bits of info all the time. Keep up the great work!

Nice looking piece.How does the com-art hold up on the deck since com-art is illustration paint.Just asking.I have seen others try to use it on helmets also.I have used regular createx through my iwata hp-sb at 30 psi.
@seancahill238 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It worked great for me. I've used com art for a verity of wall hanging paint jobs and always seal it with urethane clear so it's very well protected. I don't mind using createx, but it seems to really clog up my airbrush after a while. I use the com art to build up multiple layers very slowly and usually get a really nice effect. To answer your question I like using both, I just decided to stick with the com art on this project.

Superb :) What do you use to lighten 6:49? Thank you
@seancahill238 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm using a couple different erasers to remove pencil lines and lighten up a few spots after I've laid down some color. For softer blends I use a kneaded eraser for everything else I use a standard block eraser or electric. I also have one that's in a pencil form that I like using for small tight areas like around the eyes.

great art its, photoreal, what airbrush, needle size, pressure you paint at and, what type paint and is it thinned, I am a new airbrush artist and trying to teach myself by seeing what other stuff peoples use
@TriggerHappyCustoms9 жыл бұрын
+MRX2099 Thank you so much!! I was really pleased about the way this came out. I'm self taught as well so the best advice I can give you is to KEEP PAINTING! Follow the guys making the art that you love and take everything you can from them. I'm using an Iwata HP-CH airbrush in this tutorial and whatever needle it came with I believe its a 0.3mm. The paint is Burnt Umber and black acrylic airbrush paint by Com-Art. I switch my air pressure frequently between 20psi and 60psi depending on what it is I'm painting and how the paint is flowing. I stay around 20psi when I'm up really close to the artwork so I don't blow the paint all over the canvas. I'll be filming some more in depth projects with step by step audio instructions for those who would like to follow along, so stay tuned and thanks for the question.

sorry I'm new to airbrushing and still a bit of a novice how did you get the outline stencil of the image on the deck? or did you just freehand it on there? sorry for the silly question
@TriggerHappyCustoms8 жыл бұрын
Ha! Not a problem Travis, that's a really good question since I skipped that step in the video. I use a projector to get the image on the canvas most of the time. I use freehand and drawing skills to make a "painting roadmap" so to speak. This allows me to get the image up quickly so I can get to painting, a lot of production artist use this method and I'm a big fan. The real trick is getting the image pieced together in photoshop and then cropping it to fit whatever you're painting on... And of course the many, many hours it takes to get good at anything you go for. Make sense?
@travispond9168 жыл бұрын
Yeah absolutely :), thanks a lot any tips if a projector isn't available? I thought about just freehanding it, but yeah just wanting to make sure the proportions are correct, for example a portrait :)

hi im new in airbrushing can you or any one that reads this please recommend an air compressor thats not to noisey and expensive to do things like on ur scale without having air flow problems ,really apreciate it.
@TriggerHappyCustoms8 жыл бұрын
Most all compressors are loud and the silent air compressors are usually very expensive, especially for someone just starting out. You might want to look into using compressed air out of a cylinder instead of investing a lot of money on a silent compressor. Using compressed gas is relatively inexpensive and doesn't make any noise at all. Google Search "Using compressed gas for airbrushing" and I'm sure you can find lots of information on it. He're Is a bit of info on using compressed gas from www.airbrushguru.com/choose-the-right-airsource.html Hopefully this helps you out. "Using compressed gas. This is an elegant solution. Why? Compressed gas is completely quiet. The loudest noise is the escaping air's hiss. There's no need for power. The tank starts already full. Take it wherever you need it to go. Then work your magic. It's very portable. Though possibly unsightly, the little oxygen carts for the elderly can easily carry a tank of CO2 or N2 or a repurposed SCUBA tank. Compressed gas has very low up front equipment costs. If compressed gas is so great why doesn't everyone use it? Technically, everyone uses compressed gas. Compressors pressurize whatever gas they're pressurizing and pressure cylinders (tanks) store the compressed gas for use later. But that's getting technical. There's no engine. The engine is what makes the noise, uses electricity, and compresses the air. It's just a tank of high pressure air. Compressed gas has three big flaws Tanks eventually empty making tank refills a way of life. Experienced users horde an extra tank or two for the inevitable 'I just ran out of gas in the middle of what I'm doing!' moment. Local welding supply, and beverage supply companies are your friend. Suffocation The risk is really, really small. This risk so small that it's a non-issue. I mention it because if you do suffocate yourself, it's completely your fault, because it's easy to avoid. Here's how to avoid suffocation. Ventilation. You shouldn't spray in an enclosed space anyway, so you shouldn't be able to drown yourself by displacing all the breathable oxygen. Knocking off the tank's head. This is another very small risk that's completely avoidable. Rough handling that knocks or shears off the head allows all the pent up gas to escape turning the docile air tank into a torpedo. Avoid this problem by not handling the air tank roughly. If you can strap the tank against something else upright to avoid the tank falling over.

Rick Simpson Yeah Rick, start painting! But in all seriousness great question. Just like everything else there’s a learning curve and it takes a while so don’t give up. I would start with water based acrylic airbrush paints because they’re relatively inexpensive, easy to use/clean and not very toxic. Get yourself a small yet decent set up. I would recommend and Iwata Eclipse airbrush, (a serious workhorse) and small compressor unless you already have something you like working with. Learn how to maintain your gear and that’ll limit a lot of frustration, promise! When it comes to painting there are a ton of how-to videos for the basics on KZbin. What I would suggest is to grab a bunch of art reference from the web, (anything that interest you) and save it to a folder on your computer so you can pull from it whenever you need. Google EVERYTHING... From how-to thin your paint to how-to clean your brush. That info is all over the web and it’ll help you out tremendously. That’s probably enough to digest for now, let me know when you have questions and I’ll do my best to help you out.
