There is a button on top of the head that turns the outer two on. I pressed it by accident is the only reason I know that.

Great thing for a Raycus, but we have a JPT and a auto focus galvo head, which once hit, get to 192mm height, but the red light preview is out of focus. Than we need to decrease manually to 182mm and the red light preview get sharp. Than again hit auto focus to get back on 192mm to engrave. It sucks! We have more steps just because NANJING SPEEDY LASER from China, did not make their job well!

i have a 50w split and have 2 red dots which are not near one another. I can bring them together but it is not near the focal length that I need, nor are they near the work area of the rectangle that I'm testing. What does 2 red dots do to a project if I run a test and shouldn't the red dot be in the middle of the project that you are trying to engrave?

2 red dots aren't for aiming the laser. The 2 red dots are meant to be adjusted to come together as one dot when you hit the perfect distance from the surface. Your'e supposed to re adjust those whenever you get the laser or when you change lenses. I can never get them perfect so I just turn them off.

i have a raytcus 50w is this the same process to focus it? the optimal focal point for the laser to engrave is about 3 mm shorter than where my red preview laser making the red laser slightly fuzzy i can still see what its projecting just not a crisp clean line

the central laser has nothing to do with focus. it is purely there as a preview of what will be lasered, and needs adjusted in the software to line up perfectly with the final result. Focus is done manually, or on some machines with 2 additional lasers. I personally don't use the 2 lasers because I never felt like I could get them perfect

@@CalebKraftmakes I understand that... The preview is blurry when the laser is in focus... If I move the laser head down 5mm or so the preview line is in focus is there a way I can refocus the red preview light to be in focus while the fiber is in focus?

@@Stakespecialty I'm not an expert but that shouldn't be possible if the preview laser is properly centered. They both go through the same lens on mine. This means you probably have a set up I am just not familiar with. I'd check out www.youtube.com/@LaserEverything , they have a discord where people help each other out.

@@Stakespecialty I could see this happening possibly if the preview laser is not centered. or if it is faulty and super wide for some reason. if it is centered and correctly functional, they both get focused by the same lens.

i have a slightly different issue with my laser; the red laser is slightly out of focus compared to the main beam (the red laser is in focus around 20 mm above the focus plane of the main beam). you reckon that's fixable by adjusting it there?

I have the same problem on my JPT, apparently the light wavelengths have a different focal point when going through the lens (red ±650nm, but the engraving light is ±1064nm). It's really annoying as my light in built into the source. If yours is like the one in the video, it might have a 'twist to focus' mechanism.

@@KevinGuyPalmer i have a jpt source as well, so i am slightly disappointed to hear that. i thought it would have a similar arrangement to this, but i opened it up and the laser source shines directly into the galvo head. i even opened up the head to see if anything is in there, but apart from a bunch of magnets; nada. are you sure it's due to an issue with the wavelength of the light? in any case, i have reached out to jpt laser; perhaps they will come up with a solution or give me the same answer you gave me

From what I've been able to find out if you have a lens with a smaller work area it will decrease the difference in distance between the two focus points (I have a 175mm lens and the difference is also just over 20mm). I am ordering a 112mm lens and I'll see if that makes a difference. Will let you know. Seeing as you're the kind of person willing to open things up your not supposed to, JPT has a video on their KZbin channel that shows how the MOPA works, at around 10seconds I can see the red light module. Unfortunately I can't post a screenshot here to show you.

@@KevinGuyPalmer i think i also have a 175 mm lens, i'm not sure; it's not written anywhere on the lens. i think i ordered a 150 but this alibaba dude i bought the kit from is supportive like quicksand i'll keep you posted and i'll go find that video, thanks

@@KevinGuyPalmer it may well be that you're right about the wave length; the product page from JPT says the beam diameter is 7 mm. because the hot glue solution in the raycus source as showin in this video uses a much smaller point source that is combined into the output, the effect is nowhere near as pronounced i hope there's a way to resolve this but it may involve recreating the raycus solution or coming up with an different method of previewing (red laser correction being applied 20 mm above the IR focal plane)

the two dots are totally different. they're not supposed to be all togetther. the 2 dots are for marrking the perfect distance to the lense.

as far as fiber lasers go, or even powerful desktop lasers, this is surprisingly cheap. cheaper than a glowforge and you can actually engrave metal with it! Brass engravings will be a project soon and probably a side by side comparison of hand engraving and laser engraving.

@@CalebKraftmakes awesome, I've used k40 style co2 lasers mostly. So no metal marking though can do Ali with paint ect, but those start around 300ish

first confirm that it is on. then, if you still can't see it that means that your alignment is off. if mine points too far any single direction from center it disappears.
