Great film! But i was wondering how do you know if theres a heartbeat? You said that even when its not breathing but there is heartbeat youre trying to save it. But how do i check the pulse? How would i know if the calf has a heartbeat when its not breathing? Thanks for your answer!

Thanks for your question Julia. In terms of heart beat, you can usually feel it with your hand if you place it around the front of the chest, just behind the elbows. If you put your fingers between the ribs, you should be able to feel the pumping of the heart on your finger tips. One hint is that it’s usually farther forward than you'd expect. If you happen to have a stethoscope, placing it in that same spot you can hear the heart. It may be worth feeling for it on a few healthy newborns so you know what normal feels like when you’re trying to search for it in a weak newborn.
