You are a legend man I am a total noob in AE and honestly just need it sometimes to make stuff for videos. I scoured the internet for 20 minutes trying to find a decent video explaining this. I use sony Vegas, to get rid of the black background you right click on the video once it's on the timeline and go to properties, change the alpha channel to straight unmatted, should be in the media tab once you open properties

+Video School Online I've been experimenting with it, and I was wondering if you have tips for animation. Like is there an onion skin effect where you can see the drawing from a frame before in light grey or something? What I did was using the echo effect, but constantly re-applying it really isn't ideal.. My plan was to make a standing figure, but the camera was moving away from it so you'll have to draw the figure on each frame, but every frame a bit smaller > so the onion effect would be great for this. I hope you get what I mean, or at least a little bit :P Also is there a way of editing a previously made drawing on a frame? I can draw on a previously made drawing, but not do things like ctrl Z Hope you can perhaps help me with one of those things :)

Could use this in so many different ways. thank you. you need Vegas pro to be able to subtract alpha from a clip. need to render clip 32 bit uncompressed. right click on the Clip when it's on the timeline, properties, media tab, alpha channel section, select premultiplied.

when you are finished on the seperate composition, you can copy it from the composition, and simply paste it to your main composition. but you have to copy the whole "shape layer"

Hi, new to AE, so need to learn a lot. Question: Which layer you need to use in AE, when you want to draw the line based on the real view in video. In tutorial you used a black layer, so the under laying video view was not visible, kind of difficult so. I have hard time to do this on shape layer (see trough), to see what under the line I am drawing?
