Correct me if I am wrong but this would not work with complex objects in the image. For instance your image is just a field so you can't actually tell you have curved the object -250 pixels on the x-axis. Is there a preferred approach for the case I am talking about?

Yeah, this mostly works for simple landscape photos like field/sky. For more complex objects you should use third party plugins, there's one called loopflow for example

To speed it up you can move the keyframes closer to each other
