I'm a complete beginner at both editing in Davinci Resolve and color grading. I just binge watched several of your videos, you're the only one who's helped me understand how to wrap my head around this complicated world of colors, LUT's, nodes, etc. And you've made me feel like I can actually learn all this. THANK YOU!

Thanks for this! I wonder when you do the REC.709, why is there no output in the colorspace? well I mean why do you not define it?
@alecoqui2007 Жыл бұрын
Her timeline was already Rec.709 so you don’t have to define it since that would be redundant. You can change your timelines color space in the color management settings.

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! Can you advise on how to export a finished video graded with a film LUT for web content? For some reason when I export with rec.709 gamma 2.2 tag, there is color and luminance difference 😢

Does the film conversion process involve rec709? Why wouldn't you use and project HLG 2100?

Why did you use 2 CST nodes instead of one? Can't you select the right selections on just one node?

So if you have already graded you footage and apply the LUT at the very end. Are you only adjusting the compound node? Or do you have to go back to the 1st set of nodes to find the balance?

Is it possible to just drop a cst at the start of the node tree to cineon log and the last would be your film look?
@Fireandagrill Жыл бұрын
So say if you importing S-Log 3 would it be correct to have grades in this order: CST from correct S-Log to Davinci wide gamut - Colour Grade Nodes - CST from Davinci wide gamut to Rec 709 and the gamma to Cineon Film Log - Kodak 2383 Film LUT. Then just deliver in Rec 709, Gamma 2.4?
@colorgradinginsights Жыл бұрын
Yes!
@Fireandagrill Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, so would it be necessary to have a final CST to gamma 2.4 or no?

If I downloaded someone else's LUT, how do I know it's specifics? In Text it just says his name, not the specific gamma or input.
@colorgradinginsights Жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s the problem with LUTs purchased somewhere! The only thing you can do is to try it with your footage how it works!

Noted!
@ShutterTwist9910 күн бұрын
Why? You have a Red footage that is converted to Rec709 and then you convert Rec709 to Cineon. Why not convert Red to DWG, DWG to Cineon and then Rec709 in the end? Rec709 has a limited dynamic range and Cineon grading will have a different effect that it would on DWG.

I have a question 🙋♂️ why is CST (Color Space Transform) placed as the last node and not the first node? Your videos are very amazing and helpful!! (:
@jandwstudios9729 Жыл бұрын
Because you want to work in wide color space. It’s like trying to modify and adjust a jpg vs a raw photo file. Once you apply the cst it becomes 709, which is like a finished jpg. So it goes way at the end, for final output like on YT. Only thing after might be something like grain as it’s not effected by color space, and you don’t want a bunch of different grain colors, by grading it earlier in pipeline.
@SondreFormoLindheim Жыл бұрын
@@jandwstudios9729partly correct. You can add the CST BEFORE and after. Example: N1 NR N2 CST - Camera profile > DaVinci WG N3 Adjustments N4 CST DWG > Cineon Film N5 Filmprint LUT In that way you’re working on the Rec709 clip in a DWG Color Space until the convertion. I normally create the CST in the beginning and end - and the LUT at the very end as described above, and work my way backwards on the node tree (From node 3 (or if you have Node 1-8, I would work from Node 6 and backwards)
@colorgradinginsights Жыл бұрын
Good question! So if you place cst on the first node, you’ll loose a lot the camera information as cst compresses the image to rec.709 so it makes the color space you’re working on also rec709 that is very often smaller than the original footage, I hope this makes sense!
@SondreFormoLindheim Жыл бұрын
@@colorgradinginsights wrong - You can easily output DWG on the first CST as described by me above.
