I have watched a couple of DIY Venetian Plaster application videos and this one is truly outstanding. The voice over makes it possible to hear every word and watch the actual application at the same time. Very professional. However, I have no idea where to order the plaster or how to prepare the water/powder proportions (or can you buy it premixed?) I don’t have any idea what I need or where to order anything, including special primer? and liquid was? Please can you provide a written list of material needed as well as tools and if all of this will be available in much smaller quantities that what you suggested. Also, instead of wax, could some sort of acrylic medium be painted over the top so the plaster will not be affected by moisture in the room like from a nearby shower? I am wanting to maintain texture as well a variation in hue… as if it is a painting on a wall, Thank you for any help in getting me started.🌷
@5ssoul2 жыл бұрын
Kind of late, but the brand I bought is called Plaster of Paris. You can buy it at home Depot, Lowe's, or online for pretty cheap. Premixed is more expensive so I went with powder. Be careful with how much you prep because it dries really fast.
@dorenem85322 жыл бұрын
Thank you so. much for getting back to me. After it dries can you add another layer and will it stick? I was thinking of doing a section that stands out from the rest, THanks!!

I'm a novice at plaster (vs various forms of gypsum mud, which comprise probably 99% of the 'plastering' done in the USA) but I can tell you what's seen in this video is NOT plaster of Paris. Wherever you are, you probably would have an easier time getting your hands on the right stuff than would I, since I'm in Honolulu: it's crushed/powdered marble mixed with lime. You'll need to find a trade supplier that deals mostly with contractors, but won't shun you just because you're not wearing coveralls (not Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, etc: almost surely they won't know what you're talking about, or will take you down to show you a bag of plaster of Paris.) Right now, I'm working with a Venetian plaster from a California-based company that I like a lot: check out Vasari.com. They ship free, I think (not for me) to the continental USA, and sell a wide variety of plaster products. Carrera, Marmorino, and Venetian plasters are among them. It's not easy work, I can tell you that. If you're not prepared to sweat and have some failures in an actual plastering process, an alternative also from Vasari (and others) is 'lime paint,' which is applied in an unusual way with a big block brush, layer by layer, building a visual depth. The plaster is basically forever water-soluble which can be helpful for repairs (damp sponging can be all you need to do) but also makes it sensitive to staining. It can be applied to wet areas (even showers) but it must be sealed after application, something I've not done yet. With a few basic painter's tools you can mix your own (thick) lime paint from Vasari's powders, tint as you choose, and experiment to get a feel for it, which is where I am now.

I myself do venetian plaster as a profession, I have been doing it for the a little over 3 years non stop. It depends on the product. But usually you would do a initial polish right after the final coat is applied, and then the final polish totally dry. There are many techniques and art forms so if your interested in a certain style, first you must find out what product they used, then ask what style they used. From my experience the product Solution, Espatolato are the best products to use to Steve the shiny look you’re looking for . Another tip is to make sure your primer is nice and smooth and has no type of debris

This actually looks as though it would take less skill than the standard method of finishing drywall here in the U.S. And you don't have to sand or paint it. Wondering if you could add a very fine sand to the mix if you wanted a more textured finish.

That's not true venetian plaster, genuine venetian plaster will polish as you iron it out several times hence eliminating the need for any types of waxes,in fact only thing to do after it dries is to seal it so that nothing stains it,I won't go into detail because it takes litterley years and years to perfect and hone and an exceptional plaster never reveals any trade secrets....
