@@LTWCarpentry I actually done it today and wondered if pva glue would be better, but I used a tin of contact adhesive and it worked well. I tend to use a router and then file & sand, but looks fairly quick this way. Not used that spray before, does the overspray wipe off the end panel easily? Might try it next time.
@LTWCarpentry Жыл бұрын
Yeah I have done it with the router before aswell, I just find this is cleaner then routing indoors. No it was a pain to get off the panel, I should have covered it up. But I deffo prefer the spray, so much easier to apply

Funnily enough I just did this today _before_ this video popped up in my feed. Well done KZbin! I used the pot of contact cement, but watching this the spray-on looks easier for sure. The adhesive dripped a lot but I had the sense to tape plastic over the side panel and floor. A couple of things I could have done better (pre-trimming the edging lengthwise... duh!) but overall I was happy with the result.

@@LTWCarpentry I was surprised has strong Evo contact adhesive was, I applied it with a brush. Why wouldnt you glue the top edge flush and file the bottom edge flush thrn sand ? Just asking

Because the edge as it comes from the factory can be sharp and uneven so it’s much better to cut your edge down to what you want it to be

Have you ever done a long run of edging tape which has held up? I've got to make a massively awkward worktop and have little choice but to use ~2.5m of edging tape to edge it after tapering a 1.2m section from 800mm wide to 570mm with a little radius transition.

Q - why would you not put the strip (new edge) level with the top of the bench, rather than the bottom of bench?
@ianmurray3820 Жыл бұрын
Clamping scrap to the underside of the worktop with some sticking out catches the overspray and makes positioning the bottom of the strip easier..- just saying.!!😁

When you offer the edging to the work top, why not offer the factory edge to the top? And then when you file, it is only necessary to file the bottom edge, which will not be visible, and there is nothing there to damage.
@LTWCarpentry Жыл бұрын
I do this for a few reasons, one it’s very hard to line the edge up perfectly two the factory edge is never great, you don’t notice it in the bottom but you will on the top, much nicer finish when you trim it to suit
@uzaname79748 ай бұрын
@@LTWCarpentry Try this?: Remove the tape, clamp a length of clean straight timber over the top edge, then gently push the strips factory cut edge ( check for best ), up to it and in. polish off with wet and dry, - dry on a flat pad. No risk of damage to the w/top at all. ...Perfic!
