If I can do it - you can too! What are you doing that requires ascending rope?
@hawaiiangunner11 ай бұрын
Awesome that's the first way I learned to ascend a rope. What I found later was I bought an Ascender with a built-in Chev at the bottom. I run the Slackline through that instead. Less parts and less friction. It also keeps your Slackline lower and away from your hand at the ascender

Thanks. This was the first time I got it to work. (I've been trying to ascend a halyard on my boat so I can fix things on the mast) The other videos were good, but it took one more. Next problem to solve. My halyard is about 12mm, my grisgris is rated for smaller rope. Still worked,. I might change my halyards for a thinner rope or find a larger piece of hardware, or use a half-hitch on a carabiner, or a prusik.

Hey love your energy. I think this is a good setup (grigri + 1 ascender ) because it's cost effective (ascenders ain't cheap) , it's easy to switch between going up and down and uses a small amount of gear.

Hey thanks! I follow your steps and used the equipment you used except I used a pulley. All went well and think I found a new hobby!

Would you be able to use the same equipment in your video for rappelling also? I’m kind of a noob, but I’m trying to find a setup where I can rappel down and then ascend back up on one line of rope
@AdventuresInReach3 жыл бұрын
You can certainly use the GriGri for rappelling. It was build for belaying and rappelling. You can also use a prussik or Klemheist to back it up. The setup she is using can also be used to rappel exactly as it's set up. You just have to hold the ascender open. I use it that way when moving around in trees. However, if you are ascending any distance you would probably want to adjust to something as I first mentioned.

Definitely use an aider to stand rather than a piece of webbing. Also, instead of a biner attach a small pulley to the bottom of the ascender then run the tail of the rope from the grigri through the pulley and down again - much smoother as there is less friction, thus less effort required - I use this method for photographing climbers and also when following or cleaning an aid route - a very efficient way of ascending and descending a single fixed line - far easier and less tiring than using two ascenders and two aiders - the traditional Big Wall method.

This is not ascending 'a rope'... it's ascending a rope, which has a been set with a top pulley. That's not a normal ascending situation, for me at least... So what technique for a fixed static rope, like regular SRT?
@CaliforniaTravelVideos2 жыл бұрын
Well, since SRT uses friction devices that could collide and jam open OR CLOSED the friction device that saves your life, please don't use a hand ascender unless you have a very good life insurance policy...

Your foot sling is way way too long. I did purchase a short ladder for my feet so that it would give me multiple places I can put my foot for different scenarios period and your scenario you should probably double your sling over. That will give you a larger step up as opposed to just 6 in
