It’s a good technique, but there are two minor deviations that I use. First, reverse the top biner and pulley so it clips around the rope and doesn’t interfere with the locking mechanism of your ascender. This is more comfortable and less likely to cause your ascender cam to disengage. Second, remove the brake strand from the pulley while descending. Keeping your brake strand above your grigri impairs your ability to manually brake the descent of the grigri fails to lock. Additionally, pushing the ascender into the top of the grigri will defeat the auto lock feature by applying downward pressure on the top of the belay device.

So you're saying have the ladder on the top hole and have the pulley on the bottom?
@mineslime77662 жыл бұрын
@@sylvernale pulley on the top is ok but it should be on the other side of the ascension if that makes sense.

The ascender I bought for this method has a carabiner attachment point at the bottom of it so I attach the pulley there which is the best of both worlds.

Not so sure id keep the ascender on the rope rope while rapelling, if you inadvertently disengaged the lock on the ascender during the rap the teeth could destroy the mantle, I'd take the hand ascender right off, and tie a prussix as a backup

Hello, today I tried your technique, is the ascender Black Diamond as I didn't managed to put 2 carabiners in the bottom hole.And if yes what are the carabiners used. Great video. Very helpful.
@zanderborn21633 жыл бұрын
The ascender is Black Diamond, but it might be an older version or we may have been using skinnier carabiners. You can also put the redirect carabiner on the carabiner that the ladder is on.

I don’t use a daisy chain and it works fine for me. May not be as safe but still works.

I'm curious - if you're using a ladder strap to ascend, why bother running the brake strand through a pulley? Don't you get enough lifting power from your leg in the strap?
@derelictfpv Жыл бұрын
Adding the brake strand through the pulley gives this setup mechanical advantage so it's a lot easier to lift yourself up.

at 02:15 you are letting go of the brake line and hanging by the Grigi. Is that OK? I thought you always need to hold the brake line when using a GriGri.
@tophmyster Жыл бұрын
In this situation it's okay as the backup is the daisy chain into the ascender. If you look closely, right before he unlocks the ascender his hand grabs the brake rope again. If the Grigri is the only thing keeping you on the rope, then yes absolutely ALWAYS have a hand on the brake rope. Very good habit to be in and looking out for!! Well done :)
@Hidden_Destinations Жыл бұрын
@@tophmyster I use my left hand on the GriGri lever and right hand on the brake rope. I was going to use a prusik above the GriGri but it takes a third hand to pull down as I decend and it can also get jammed by loading it. I would prefer to not use a prusik on the brake rope. What back ca I use on the repel?
