So, I know I’m a bit late, but I was curious if you have to buy fly leader or if you could just tie a perfection loop on a piece of monofilament and just attach your fly to that? Or is it necessary to buy a fly leader from a fly shop?

I tend to rush setting up my rigs when putting a fresh leader on, and sometimes end up doing it the "wrong" way. While it can be done properly that way as others are stating, it twists up the loop and causes more than a few headaches with thinner lines... the way shown in the video works so much better. Take your time on the water, and do things correctly... the fish aren't going anywhere, and you'll save time in the long run.
@Madriveroutfitters6 жыл бұрын
Thanks as always. Again, better to do it the right and easy way than the "sort of wrong" way with additional steps. The thing that alot of folks are forgetting here is that most of these videos are geared towards the rank beginner. In order for it to be easy, you must simplify things and break down in easy terms. Do it this way, Don't do it that way. No need for further words or complications. We WILL get to more Intermediate topics and concepts moving forward but not during this "Getting Started in Fly Fishing" series. Stay tuned!

I have a question for you that I’m really confused about. When you want switch flies you cut the tippet and leader down I assume. So essential you have to carry several leaders and tippets with you at all times??? When Bass fishing when you run out of leader you just cut some more monofilament off the spool tie it to the braid and your good to go. Am I missing something?? I’m confused about fly fishing, I really want to try it but not sure about the whole changing flies thing

Yes, but the idea is that you would not cut the leader off so it's a non-issue. Once you tie the butt section on there, you would rarely if ever change it. You would just alter mid sections and tippet sections. More coming on this. Stay tuned.

Thanks for these videos Brian, I've been fishing for a number of years and tend to enjoy fishing mostly for carp and tench these days. I've never tried fly fishing and can't wait to give it a go. I've just attached my leader to my fly line (with the help of this video) and have watched all your Fly Fishing For Beginners videos, so I at least have some clue on what to do! I'm half way through your Carpin video series, and hope to learn more, before I get out on the bank again. Any advice on what flies to use for carp in a lake would be massively appreciated. I'm not sure whether dry or sinking flies would be the best option here. As they are bottom feeders, I'm guessing sinking flies, but you have also mentioned using dry flies too. Greetings from the UK, stay safe bud.

Just also add (without realising), I purchased a 4x leader with two droppers, so effectively I can fish 3 flies at once. I don't know if this is a good idea. Can I mix things up with dry and sinking flies, or is it best to stick with the same type of fly with this kind of leader?
