When you're stitching the mail on, do you always pass the needle through two rings or just one?

It sort of just happens as it happens, depending on how much I need to gather the maille in. I have seen some people sew 'catch stitches on to ensure they have the right fit and then sew on the rest as it happens. Hope that helps.

It's on the list, everything depends on the orders at the time and the time I have to do it, filming adds about 50% to the time it takes to build, but it's on the list and I will try.

In the cases where you saw two rows of stitching, is it possible the aventail was lined and that the upper row was anchoring the lining? I'm sorting out how to attach the upper edge of my quilted lining...

Paul Lalonde that's as good a guess as any. So far as I know there is only one 14th century liner intact lwft to us but that is a full liner that goes up into the crown of the bascinet. I see no reason why your suggestion isn't as good as any other to be honest.

Thanks. My default tends to be Mark at Cap-a-pie www.capapie.co.uk/ But if you're stateside you could look at Tom Biliter of Historically Patterned maille as well. Hope that helps

Generally I stick with a beg tan leather about 3 to 6mm deep. A good test, if you get the chance, is to make a small slit with a sharp knife and see if you can pull it open further by hand. If you can it will be far to weak.
