FINALLY, FINALLY, After several years of using the "Homer Rhodes" loop knot and not knowing the name of it, and no one else seems to know either, I come upon a video that tells me the name of this knot! THANKS! I just subbed!

Certainly not more knowledgeable but I can confirm this is the Steve Huff Double Figure 8. Perfect knot for heavy shock to fly especially for big game.

Thanks for the great video! A simpler version of this is an overhand knot fed through the hook followed by a 3 loop unit knot on the tag end. Tight lines!

I had thought about this but never got it right. But the no slip loop knot is easier.

Your channel is great! I was wondering what's your favorite pair of saltwater pliers? Who makes the ones you're using? Thanks for the good advice

I actually just use cheap ones as I keep losing them! 😀

Question- have you tried running predator style fly snaps instead of knots on your flies for Geets/other salt species? Great videos once again. As a fly tyer I love the fly videos, and I also like your trip preperation videos. Maximizing your fishing abilities on a trip halfway around the world is something we should all strive for. Love the GT book too!

Thanks for the comment, no actually I have never tried that... I tried it in trout flies way back, but never in the salt. Might be worth looking at... thanks for the kind comment... 😀

@@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing I'm new to fly fishing but what type of line do u use for large for flies. Is it like 15 test fishing line vs the 2x,3x or 4x

Unfortunately, the camera focus was off on the improved Homer Rhodes knot and couldn’t tell how you tied the second figure eight. I suppose it’s like the Crawford knot.

I have to say- the Steve Huff 8 knot isn't that bad to learn at all. I picked up on it in about 5 minutes. Being new to the Homer Rhode and the Steve Huff, I think the Steve Huff knot is easier for me. For all my freshwater stuff, I use a Davy Knot (Davy Wotton). It's a superb knot. I'm actually going to test it on bonefish just to see.

When you edited this, you didn’t see it was out of focus?

This was an early video 2018 and be honest I did not really know what I was doing, but everyone has to start somewhere… 😄

thank you for that demonstration, you do realize your tippet section will break long before your shock section... with that being said any properly tied knot will suffice.
