The 34 hour rule is a pain and is one of those things that you can avoid if you know how. Today I will tell you how you can go on driving without having to take any resets along the way.

Personally I have been driving for many years and the 34 hour reset is my goal as soon as get in the truck. Why you my ask ? Is that the hours are there to drive each day not save them to work every day. Why not get out of your truck get a room and relax , so you will fresh and relaxed to start the next cycle?

Logging is a skill. The current laws made it more challenging for me to be creative with how I use my 14, 11 & 70 hour work week. Lucky for me, I enjoyed learning how to log back in the 80's Paper logs gave me the flexibility but computers helped me be more creative. The splitting of drive hours, sleeper berth hours, non driving hours & off duty hours. to stop the 14 hour clock I am still learning to master. If I use 70 hours up in 8 days. I deserve a 34 reset. Because for me, 70 hours is more like 100. I do what it takes to get the job done in a safe and timely manner. Dilly dallies, I understand them working the ELD's to only work their 8.75 hours or less, everyday and find that parking space at the truck stop. I avoid snowstorms, rush hour traffic and the long lines at the pumps. Trip planning is skill and I need to be willing to change the plan according to the weather. That means I drive through the night. Its not the number of hours I use up in the 8 days. Its how I use them.

A lot of presumptions but works when it works. Picking up 8 hours won't help much if you need a full 14 hour day.
@JimWall2
@JimWall2 Жыл бұрын
The 34 reset is the normal 10 hr break plus 24 more hours. So it is only 1 day off. I get more miles if I drive 10-11 a day. 6 days then 1 off and the 8th I have all my hours back. That gives me 70+ in 8 days with a day off...

Last company I worked for ran recaps. Problem is, they didn’t exactly dispatch that way lol. Safety explained 2 things that made it simple. Don’t work more ( on duty & driving) than 8-9 hours per day. That way you’ll always have hours available. Also wait until hour 6 to take a 30 minute break. ( this was before they changed it to 30 minutes on duty to meet the break requirement ) The hardest thing for me is trying to figure out how much time I get back after midnight. When my 70 is running low. Many times I got up to discover only a few hours available for the day…. Bummer !!

I may be completely wrong, but I can run 84 hrs per week WITH a 34hr break. I can not do it your way. 70 ÷ 8 = 8.75 hrs per day continuous with no 34 hr break. I can run days 1-5 at 14hrs/day and have 70 hrs total. Take a 34 Fri night thru Sun morning and hit another 14 on Sun. Run Mon thru Thurs 14 again and 34 break on Fri. Start truck again on Sat for and 5 day 70.

Appreciate the video, but definitely a recruiter pov. If you have 10 left, you actually have 8 1/2 in order to find parking for the night. Also you will make close to 300 more hours per year if you do a reset after 70. Recap is not as beneficial as resetting. Although companies will try to get you to keep running.

Reset vs Recaps is really a lifestyle choice. You’re technically working the same amount of hours each week no matter which one you choose. Personally, I prefer working longer days and doing all of my sitting at once (during the 34). After working 11 to 14 hour days (and only stopping 10 hours at night) for 5-6 days, I’m ready for a break! During that break, I will use personal conveyance to go shopping and do stuff! Plus, my company pays me $100 for doing a reset on the road and a night in hotel. So, I actually make more money doing resets!

I'm a co driver and I'm on my 10 hour break right now while my Co Driver is getting us to PA from Wisconsin. We're getting dragged down in the snow right now. I want to know if we're going to get stuck in the truck on our way back with our load and lose our 34 hour reset because of weather delaying our arrival. Losing our time home like agreed. Our truck is also scheduled for its regular maintenance this weekend at our operating center.

In 6 days thats 6X12=72 hours I've worked. Now I know this is the exception but hear me out. After the 2 weeks has ended, obviously I have to take a 34 to restart my hours. Say that I already drove 11 hrs and usually for me to get another 11 hrs of dive time, I need to be off 10 hrs, but if I only get into sleeper berth for 8 hrs, will I get any driving hours back? And after driving, let's say 4 hrs, I get into the sleeper berth for 2 hrs. Does that work? Thank you

So do you have to use up your entire 70hrs before the 8th day in order for this to work? And do you have to work 8 days (and are you trying to expire your drive time or clock or both) - ie: if your at max come day 5 or even day 6; do the hours start coming back on the 7th or 8th day or only on the 9th day? Do you need to have hrs to work on the 8th day, otherwise you have to do the 34hr reset?

The clock is confusing and I might need your office number. If you do, leave a comment on one my videos so it can be private. My thing is this if I do split time in one day and my clock stops thoes not mean in anyway that my sleeping time will cut off at 8 hours. I will need a defenetly a 10 hour restart.

I’m probably just an idiot and can’t comprehend. But please help… I don’t understand how if I have already gone home or taken a 34 hour how am I supposed to get hours back if I never had any hours in the first place from the day I would get hours back from. If I am forced to take a restart today (let’s say on the 1st of the month) how would I skip a 34 hour restart next week or the week after, since I am out of hours now and I'm forced to restart the same thing is going to happen next week and the week after. 🤦‍♀️ wouldn't that mean I would have to have hours from that past day to keep going? And if so how do you get past hours you never had in the first place? I watched the video and you explain it very well….it's just that in practice when attempting to follow this scheduled it didn't work for me because of that 0 hours from my last 34.

If you average 9 Hrs 45 mins Daily you’ll never have to do a reset, Now if you drive more than that just make sure the next day you drive less the amount you overdrove on the prior day, say if you had to drive 10.5 Hours you would just drive 9 Hours the following day. If you drove a full 11 than just 8.5 the next day. But 9 Hours and 45 Mins averaged daily would allow you to continue to ride off strong recaps of at least 8 Hrs or More Daily.

12th day without a 34 reset... my clock does stay under 20hours but I been getting 8 hours back each night but in 5 more days I'll only get 4 hours back.... so in 18 days I'll probably take a reset. How am I doing this? Well I go off duty while they unload me. But I can't be in the truck, so I go get lunch or go shopping for a hour 2 times a day.... so I only go on duty for pre trip and fueling. I was going onduty unloading but I only could work 5 days... so if im eating lunch across the street I don't have to be on duty. So I'm on day 12 with 15hours on 70 and getting 8 hours back for about 4 more days then getting 4-5 hours back

You explained well but you can do it that way in a perfect world . But be out there and drive with your calculation ? Good luck . . You have to put the road condition construction and getting stuck in traffic . You can never reach your destination. Responsible and professional drivers must have more flexible way to drive and be productive . Even tho the government put this restriction for safety it’s ironic that it could be more stressful for many drivers to meet the demand from shippers and receivers and the brokers and dispatch. Those 34 hours could reduce fatigue however they can be stressful with a load in my truck and they are not in destination place due to luck of hours .
